We enjoyed one night's stay and were immediately impressed with the open air beauty of the reception area. Our room was away from the water but that was no matter. It was spacious, clean, and had a good bathroom. The restaurant down at the water's edge was great. the pool was wonderful - clean, beautiful with relaxing deck chairs around it.

This hotel was recommended by a travel agent. First let me just say that customer service at this hotel was terrific. In addition, I agree that the property is in a great location and the view is indeed beautiful. When I first arrived I was impressed by the beautiful outdoor lobby, pool, the view of the boats, however, I stayed one night in a standard room (with two beds) ($66.80 price was for one person). Now, that may not seem like alot of money, but in Guatemala a room for this price is considered on the expensive side. The room was big and at first glance appeared clean and acceptable. It was old, damp and desperately in need of a renovation. I completely agree with the January 2012 reviewer, the room had very little furniture, the tiles was old, dirty and chipping as was the tile in the bathroom shower. The sheets was old, worn and thin and there were no little soaps or shampoos that are standard in hotels. Instead their is an old soap dispenser over the old little sink, The shower also has a dispenser. The blue curtain were old, stained and full of cobb webs. Perhaps the room had not been occupied in quite some time, as their were an array of dead bugs on the floor, including a huge dead waterbug on the side of one of the 2 beds in the room. It appeared as though the waterbug had been their awhile. I am assuming that the room had not beem aired out (due to the damp moldly smell in the sheets and pillowcases) or cleaned in quite some time. Later that night, the dead waterbug was replaced by a very big and alive one that decided to hang out (or should I say on) the curtains! By the way, their are mosquitoes everywhere (including the room) so be sure you bring OFF. They do not offer TVs in the standard rooms, instead you can pay around $20.00 more (if you are one person) for an executive room, and a much cleaner room. I have stayed in several hotels throughout Guatemala, all with different price points and this is the first hotel that did not offer TV at that price and this is the first time that I paid that type of money and got such a crappy room. This was a $25.00 room (if that). I was very disappointed and could not wait to leave. I slept with my clothes on! It did have A/C but it was very loud. I heard the food was very good, but I did not eat there. There aren't a lot of hotel choices in Rio Dulce so if you must choose this hotel get one of the newer rooms. Leave the standard rooms to the waterbugs!

Room Tip: Ask to see the room first, which they will happily show you.

We arrived after a long 6 hour trip from Guatemala City at a dimly lit Reception where no one could speak English. We were allocated a standard room that was damp and bereft of any furniture except for 2 beds and a bed side table, the bathroom was sparse, minimal with no toiletry provision. We escaped to the restaurant which is ideally located on the edge of the lake only to be subject to noise and smoking from a group of morose young people who clearly had consumed their maximum alcohol intake, maybe half a pint at best. They proceeded to bang an oil can behind 2 people dining, obviously much to their annoyance and irritation. Other inadequacies in the room included: no table, no chairs, no TV one tap in bathroom, whilst curtains had to be always to avoid goldfish bowl peering and the fitted bed sheet was totally unfitted.
At best a holiday camp. All that said, the French manager tried very hard and insured that we got away with reserved seats on the Livingstone boat.

Room Tip: There are newer rooms but we certainly did not get one make sure you ask.

My family and I spent New Years in Nana Juana and we had a great time. This hotel offers great access to Rio Dulce, we rented a hotel bus which drove us from Guate city to Rio Dulce for a reasonable price.
The restaurant offers GREAT food, ranging from excellent pasta to wonderful seafood dishes and enormous breakfasts. Not to mention their pina coladas and cheladas, in fact all cocktail drinks were wonderful, maybe not so much the house wine, but you have a good choice of wine by the bottle which are very good.

The service is wonderful, all personnel is so friendly and customer service oriented.
We were very pleased with the pool and common areas that range from a nice sunset open bar, a marina, volleyball area and spacious gardens that are beautiful.

We stayed in the old rooms which are being nicely renovated and are very clean and spacious, but some friends slept in the new suites which are wonderful, with a great view to the river and Marina, one of them had an open shower outside their bathroom, definetly worth while :)

In the hotel it is easy and accesible to rent wave-runners and go on tours that take you on the wonderful to Livingston stoping by birds-island and a place where children in canoes sell pretty handcrafts,

The hotel also has free internet and very nice music atmosphere.
