I also was part of the Habitat for Humanity build group that stayed here. I too have to say I enjoyed the place immensely. Not only was it a very relaxing place to unwind with the beautiful lake and wonderful trees, but the owners (Hugo and his family) took very good care of us and made us the most wonderful food. By allowing the native trees to return to his land over the past 30 years Hugo has recreated a habitat for the native animals and it is quite something to be enveloped by the canopy of trees and the animals (monkeys etc,)that inhabit it. It is commendable that by conserving native habitat Hugo has made this wonderful "Hotel ecological" which is another reason to support this hotel (if you weren't won over by the service and food). Why stay in el estor ? The Lake is beautiful, and also in about a 15 minutes drive (we organised a van) from this hotel is a hotspring waterfall cascading into an ice cold stream that is well worth experienceing. Also El Estor is only an (easy) hour drive from Rio Dulce where we took a boat tour down the river to Livingston. I thought it much better to avoid the hustle and bustle of the town of Rio Dulce and stay at the Hotel Ecologico Cabanas del Lago.
