“Good hotel among the mansions....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

Hampton hotels once again not disappointing. The hotel chain is reliable and there were a few restaurants within walking distance, like....

Superior Grill good for a cold one. Food is a little bland for Mexican food but sure is a nice sociable place.

Superior seafood a little further down - a little more upscale (same owners) and delicious food.

Free parking and secure area.

Room Tip: Choose a room on side towards Tulane not the other side because you look into others windows and wor...

If I ever came back to new orleans I would not stay anywhere else. The location is in the garden district which gives you a lot of beautiful homes to see. The trolley doesn't go downtown anymore, so take the number 12 bus (St. Charles route) bus stop is two blocks away from the hotel at the Rite Aid. $1.25 per person one way, $3.00 per person for a day pass. It drops you off at Canal St, from there you can walk straight on to bourbon street or royal street and make your way through downtown. Free WiFi, complimentary breakfast, coffee and fresh fruit available in the lobby throughout the day, tea and cheese from 5 pm to 7pm. And most important Free Parking!!! Free passes to the fitness center nearby. Pool available to do laps. Emerils Delmonico on the same street. Lots of restaurants in the neighborhood, would love to live in this area.

It would be hard to beat this value. The location is lovely (and will be even better once the streetcar line is no longer being repaired). The staff were helpful, the parking was free, and the breakfast was also complimentary (although typical convenience foods- go to Coulis around the corner if you want a great breakfast). The rooms could stand to be refurbished, but I get that it is easier said than done. My one problem was the noise from the air conditioner in the room. It was incredibly loud and made it difficult to sleep with the AC on.

I was here on business, and stayed here based on location, price, and having stayed here a few years ago. The hotel location is great - right in the middle of all St. Charles St. has to offer (many great restaurants - there's a Tex-Mex right next door, Superior Seafood *excellent* and Fat Harry's about 8 blocks away, and New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood Company about 2 blocks away), close to the park/zoo, Tulane/Loyola, and right on the streetcar line which terminates right at the French Quarter. This is a great place to stay as there are many really good restaurants all within walking distance, and again - right on the streetcar line (there was some construction, so you had to take a bus to go through downtown and to the French Quarter, but stop is a block away).

There is free gated parking, the hotel - like all Hamptons - has the nice breakfast, which was amply stocked, always kept clean, and the hostesses were nice as could be. They also have a evening snack reception (cheese + crackers) which was a nice touch. The hotel is nice and clean, the rates are competitive for New Orleans, the staff are all very friendly and accommodating, and the rooms are typical Hampton, but that's not a negative.

I have stayed here before, and would definitely stay here again while in the area due to the great location, the cool vibe of the place (especially the lobby and ground floor area), the decent rates, and accommodating staff. Definitely take the streetcar up and down St. Charles and over to the French Quarter (if that's where you want to go) - much cheaper than taking a cab (about $12 from the edge of the French Quarter - Mr. B's Bistro is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to - to the hotel, vs. $1.75 bus/trolley fare).

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel (overlooking St. Charles) are likely more quiet than those toward th...

Hotel is very clean, nice staff, quiet room, great breakfast, great pillows, compters in lobby you can print from, great cleaning crew! There is also free parking behind the hotel. Would stay here again! The French Quarter is only a few minutes away.

This is an older hotel, which shows its age, particularly in the rooms. The location is very good and within walking distance of several good restaurants. About a mile from Audubon Park and the St. Charles Ave Street Car runs in front of the hotel. The location makes up for the hotel itself. The staff was very pleasant and helpful.

This hotel is located in the garden district which is a beautiful area outside the hustle and bustle of downtown. The trolley runs down the street where the hotel is located but it was under construction during our visit so a car was a must. Parking is free which offset the cost of the rental. Internet is also free and strong signal in the room. The rooms were a little dated but comfortable, adequate in size and clean. Our room was located in the back of the hotel and was very quiet. The continental breakfast was good and there were plenty of tables. There were tables outside next to the pool but it was surprisingly noisy so we moved inside. Pool was small and we never saw anyone using it. The late afternoon snack of grapes, crackers and cheese was a nice touch. Staff were helpful in giving information about the area and its a perfect location to explore the garden district. Its less than a mile from the Layafette Cemetery which is a nice walk to see the homes and have lunch at the Commander's Palace. Its a perfect location to relax upon arrival and explore the more quiet areas of New Orleans but close enough to get downtown.
