Hampton Inn New Orleans - St Charles Ave / Garden District
Ranked #12 of 165 Hotels in New Orleans

We travel to NOLA frequently to visit our daughter in college. We almost always stay at this Hampton Inn. We spend about 6-8 weeks a year in hotels, between business and vacation, and mostly at Hampton Inns (which we prefer - you can't beat their free breakfast). It is steps away from the charming trolley, which is a lovely breezy ride to whever you want to go in New Orelans. Parking is free (take this into consideration when considering rates). We have stayed in the French Quarter and Convention area (when we didn't know any better, or this location was full) but found it too noisy and difficult to park (e.g. Hilton Garden Inn in French Quarter - too many one way streets!). The location on St. Charles Avenue makes it easy to find. Rooms are standard Hampton Inn, and there is a lovely lobby and court yard.

Very comfortable lobby and eating areas. The hotel was full of holiday travelers, a large family group and everyone seemed happy and pleased. Typical Hampton breakfast which could have included a few local items and didn't but kids and adults all had good choices. Only a few blocks from great restaurants on and near Magazine St. Easy parking, clean rooms, working complimentary internet and printing. Room was quiet, clean and temperature fine. Hotel staff was very accommodating and provided missing items. This hotel is a great bargain for a NOLA experience. Will definitely return.

The exterior and lobby area were lovely. But our room smelled of mildew. None of the windows in any of the rooms can be opened, so you have to run the AC 24/7. Its therefore musty and stale air. The parking is free and that's a plus. But that's all, IMO. Its on the St. Charles trolley line, but it took us 3 streetcars with two transfers and ONE hour of travel time to get from the hotel to the Cafe du Monde. So we ended up wasting a lot of our limited time in NOLA on the trolley. The trolleys are charming, but....
The complimentary "Breakfast" was of very poor quality and a much more limited selection than other Hampton Inn's I've stayed at. You would need to take your car to get to most restaurants, so you end up paying for parking anyway unless you luck out with street parking.

Room Tip: Try another hotel.

I stayed at the Hampton Inn New Orleans in the Garden District during a visit to Tulane University. The hotel is right in the Garden District of New Orleans, on St. Charles Ave. The famous trolley line runs in front of the hotel. A brief walk in the area took me past some beautiful old mansions. This is not particularly close to the French Quarter, but the trolley will take you there.

The hotel staff was helpful and friendly. My room was comfortable and quiet. The beds are great. I had the breakfast one day during my stay, and it was fine.

Enjoyed our stay at the Hampton Inn. Great location in the Garden District. It is out of the fray of all the French Quarter craziness, yet you can get on a trolley that is just outside your door and be there in minutes. There is a lot to do in the Garden Square, as well as dining and drinks at Superior Grill, that is on the same block as the Hampton. The Hampton has great linens for a great night sleep. Would definitively return to this Hampton.

I was so pleased to walk into this hotel. The lobby decor is really nice and the outdoor seating/pool area was very relaxing - villa style, not hotel. Small and quaint. Like a boutique hotel.
Free parking, ample parking even with a full house.
Easy to get in and out.

The location can not be beat if you are going to Tulane or the Garden District, since there are basically only 2 hotels here.

The rooms are fine. Clean, reasonably modern, and Fine. Just fine. Nothing at all great.
The included breakfast again is ample, not great, just fine.

Overall, I would stay here again due to the location, but this is not a romantic getaway place. Some of the front desk staff could be a bit more friendly or at least appear interested in the guest (at least pretend!).
