This was a very friendly, and clean hotel, and I recommend it and out next trip which is in a couple months will be at this very same hotel. It's close to everything, it's very well lit up for security, the staff was very helpful in every question we had, the breakfast was excellent, and the other guests at the hotel were all in good spirits and seemed to have been enjoying their stay at La Quinta as well.

I have stayed here many times, ONLY because I have a dog and ONLY because when I complain they say they've retrained their staff or did something to make the problems go away. Multiple things about this hotel, both good and bad:
Good:
Neighborhood is nice, quiet, safe and close to everything
Lobby is immaculate.
They do serve breakfast, but very limited.
Within walking distance of Red Gravy.
They accept dogs of any size and with a smile.
Cheap valet parking.
The suites are very large, nice and have decent views.
There is a nice safe park to walk your dog 2 blocks away.

Bads:
If you stay on the pet floor (8th) it's disgusting and not clean.
Not all nonsmoking rooms are actually nonsmoking, as I found
out this last visit.
The maids are very loud and like to cut up and giggle in the
morning while you're sleeping. Not cool.
Sometimes the vending machines are empty of ice and water.
Sometimes the pool is closed.
They have a pool. This thing is not pleasant. It's very small and
with no view.
They have breakfast, which is sugary cereals, bagels, and
waffles. The poorest complimentary breakfast I've ever had
at a hotel and always choose to pay elsewhere rather than
eat it.
The rooms are not REALLY clean. The entrance has laminate
flooring and that has never been clean when I've been
there. The lightswitches are obviously dirty. I'm not sure the
carpets have ever been shampooed. I usually bring with me
Clorox wipes to clean the doorknobs, switches and counter
and desk tops.
There is no safe in room.
And the biggie...the air conditioning is horrendous. You can
only go as low as 65. Sounds OK. But the thing doesn't get
cool. I'm very cold natured but at night I have to sleep
without covers due to the heat.

Here is what I've learned from staying at this place so many times in dealing with the air conditioning. When you get into your room you call down to the desk and ask for (I know how silly this sounds because it is a La Quinta) the V.I.P. treatment in dealing with the air. They may balk at first, but tell them you want someone to your room to put the air lower and get rid of the motion sensor.Yes, they actually call it the VIP treatment. In New Orleans cold air is a right not a treatment. But they will come, day or night. And don't let them give you a line about fixing it from downstairs, it doesn't work that way. They have to come up in your room.

Room Tip: Corner suites are great and all the rooms there are quiet. Just ask to not be put on the pet floor...

La Quinta hotels can be nice or a little sketchy at times. This was the nicest La Quinta we have stayed in. The girls at the front counter were very welcoming, had good suggestions and helped with directions. The room was larger than other standard hotel rooms and four adults had no issues with space. The only complaint would be that the cleaning staff never came by and we had to call down for towels a few times. When we mentioned it they had said they were still doing the rounds ( it was 4 pm) so not really sure what happened there. Also the air conditioner didn't seem to get quite cold enough but was ok. But we only stayed two nights and the location was close enough to walk to most things and the streetcars run very close by also.

When we arrived and pulled up next to the inn I went in and asked how to get valet parking. The nice lady at the desk said to go out front and ask the valets, that they would probably take it around for me. The head valet who seemed to be more interested in texting on his cell phone told me to pull it around which involved going all the way around the block because of the one way streets (I am not familiar with NOLA). When I asked him how to get there he looked at me like I was crazy. The room was fine for an older hotel. My only real complaint was that housekeeping never came and serviced our room after the first night so we arrived back late at night to find no clean towels or cups for coffee, water, etc. The people at the front desk were very, very nice and helpful. It is a several block walk to Canal Street to get to the French Quarter. It's not bad if you don't mind walking but you can't pop in and out. It was the closest we could get because of Tulane graduation had everything sold out.

Breakfast very simple (but includes waffles, which you however have to make yourself)

Location is perfect!

Check-in not very welcoming.

Window in room cannot be opened.

In general ok hotel, but would prefer to pay a bit more for a bigger chain hotel.
