“Nice Hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2013

The rooms were quite delightful. Tastefully decorated, clean, comfy bed, clean bathroom. Service wasn't poor, but was a little lacking. I didn't really find anyone who seemed concerned with going above and beyond or treating my like a valued guest. For example, valet signs weren't clear so I pulled into the circle instead of alongside the building and even after taking my luggage out, valet told me to pull car around. I wasn't far away, mind you, I was RIGHT THERE, but on perpendicular side of the corner. There was a line for check in because only one person was actually helping customers while two other front desk personnel chatted it up. I had a package waiting for me at the front desk and even had a claim number for it but took forever for them to find it, making me late for work with no apologies. So not really BAD service, but not even remotely impressive.

Gym was gorgeous, but it's a real gym with a membership. So if you want to work out past 9 or 10 (depending on the night) or before an early flight, forget about it. I think they would benefit greatly from having at least a small fitness room for guests who need to work out at odd hours.

I spent nearly a week at this hotel for a conference and found that, similar to other convention-oriented Hiltons, there are a number of corners cut. Instead of the standard 3 towels, there are only two, no body wash, etc. I used room service to cater an event and found sizes and quality just a tad below expectations. That all said, the hotel was staffed up the wazoo and every employee seemed to want to exceed your expectations. Be warned: similar to NYC and Las Vegas, everyone seemed to expect a cash tip.

The restaurant had been recommend by someone but I found it a great disappointment. You are best advised to skip the restaurant. After all, this is a city with world-class restaurants and several can be had within 100 feet of the hotel.

I stayed here when I was in town for a conference - the staff was super friendly, breakfast was yummy, and the room was very comfortable. I enjoyed taking the street car from right outside the hotel, and it was fun to watch the boats on the Mississippi from my room! Also loved the glass elevator.

We did something REALLY out of the box this year and spent the holidays in NOLA! Who knew we were there during the big bowl game between the Cajuns & ECS so there were many folks at the hotel. Even with that we had a blast! EVERYONE we encountered that worked here was courteous and helpful. (Special shout out to the ladies at the restaurant who oversee breakfast buffet!)

OTHER PERKS - This location is great because it sits on the trolley and its close to everything, situated across from Casino, its walking distance to great local restaurants like Mother's, the Red Slipper and more! The bar and restaurants are just fine if you don't want to venture out.

For souvenir shopping you have an indoor mall outside the entrance, across the trolley tracks and off to the right. You can't go wrong taking the historic trolley down to the French Market! (Purchase the day pass for $3 and jump on and off at each stop! Must-sees are Cafe Du Monde & JAX Beer, while taking in the scenery in slow-mo!

Room Tip: Go for the executive level floors 27 and up!

The Hilton Riverside in New Orleans is massive with 1700 rooms, which makes it good for conventions and conferences. The large size means it has great amenities, but also means you can easily get lost in the maze of towers and floors.

My room had a lovely view of the Mississippi. It was clean, spacious and bright. All the staff at the hotel are friendly and helpful. And, the location-- along the river, close to the French Quarter and a short taxi ride to the Gardent District-- is ideal.

Room Tip: Ask to be looking out on the river.

I loved my stay here. They gave me a room with a view of the Mississippi River. The hotel was across the street from the casino too. It also had indoor tennis courts to use for an extra cost. The train was just outside the door to take you down to the French Quarters or if you wanted to walk, it wasn't far. Plus while walking you could view the river. They had an elevator that was glass to take you up and down. The view wasn't spectacular but it was fun to ride up on and not usually full. Plus all the elevators opened real quick after you pressed the button. Everyone was real helpful and nice. The restaurant inside was good if you didn't want to go out. Their buffet breakfast was wonderful - lots to choose from. Always had taxis outside their doors to take you where ever you wanted to go. I would definitely stay there again. I also lucked out when I booked the hotel price wise; especially for the room and view I got.

Room Tip: Room overlooking the Mississippi was quiet.

We were at the Hilton for four nights over New Years and appeared to be just about the only people staying that had never heard of sugar bowl before! The hotel was really busy as lots of people were staying for Sugar Bowl.

- The room was a great size and very clean. We had a good view over the river from our room.
- excellent location. 5 min walk to the start of the French Quarter and about 15 min walk to bars on Frenchman St at the other end of the Quarter. I felt very safe walking back home here at night as the walk back is very well lit. If you were staying on the other side of the French quarter I would not have felt as safe.
- free wifi is available from levels 1 and 2
- front desk staff were polite and answered any questions you had but were not at all proactive in their service. When you check in I would have liked them to explain the gym and give you a brief overview of where things are in this huge hotel.
- you need to pay about $10 a day to use the gym. Having said that the gym is fantastic and very clean, heaps of equipment and this price includes classes. I did the spin and Pilates class which were both really good. I think the basic gym should be free and then you should pay for classes and hiring courts.
- the minibar is empty, but there is a good store in the hotel which sells reasonably priced cereal, milk, beer and snacks.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the river
