“BEST HOTEL IN NOLA”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

I am new to Trip Advisor but I wanted to backtrack and leave a review for the best hotel in New Orleans. This hotel is adorable, clean and the staff is great. It is nestled perfectly in the French Quarter. I will definitely stay here again!
I must warn you though.. we had some.. experiences here. Including an alarm clock flying off the nightstand and a picture where you can clearly see an eerie face laying on the pillow next to me. From my experience this place is a paranormal hot spot! If that kind of stuff freaks you out.. well.. maybe you shouldnt stay anywhere in the French Quarter hahaha

Just got back from a four day stay at The St. Marie Hotel. This hotel was clean. The rooms were large and our porch was fantastic. We would sit out every night and enjoy the sounds and cool breeze, after a long day of sightseeing.
The staff was excellent .Thanks to two special people Jennifer and David .

Room Tip: Room410 had a hugh porch

Hotel St Marie is perfectly located in the French Quarter, is comfortable but a little tired and in need of a spruce up. Staff are excellent and very helpful for the first time visitor. The place needs a little modernisation, getting rid of the old tube TV and upgrade of the WiFi would be a good start. ( Wifi drops out a lot). Overall good experience mainly for the staff and the location.

Room Tip: Some may not like the noise so ask for a room around the back.

Great location. Very affordable. "Bed and breakfast" feel. Staff was hospitable and informative about the French quarter. Go during the off season. Rooms are big but ours was a little "musty" smelling. Be prepared to pay for parking.

We stopped in New Orleans for a couple of nights on our way to Perdido Key, Florida. This hotel had a great location and was a safe easy walk to Bourbon Street and Jackson Square. The hotel was an older property but very clean and had tons of history that we were looking for. I loved my balcony and enjoyed sitting outside in the evening listening to the party goers a block away on Bourbon. Yes it was a little loud at night, to be expected this close to bars that are open 24 hours a day. Our room faced the street so perhaps a pool balcony would have been a bit less noisy. Valet took quite awhile to get our car upon leaving but that wasn't a huge deal. Also, great security at this hotel as you could not get in after 10 pm without being a guest in the hotel. Will stay again!

We just returned on 9/2/2013 from New Orleans. My poor rating is bases on the room quality. Staff and location are rated much higher.

I want to say that the location of this hotel is perfect! You are only ½ block off Bourbon St. and yet has French Quarter hotels go is extremely quiet. With the exception of the hotel’s manager, the staff was wonderful. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and very responsive to any question or need we might have. The hotel it’s self could be a beautiful property once more if some money was spent on infrastructure, maintenance , and replacing worn carpets and furnishings. It is too bad the owner/s do not see the potential and nor have willingness to restore this gem to what it once was!
One more positive note about the hotel is the restaurant Vacherie. The food is excellent as is the service. The prices are reasonable and the quality is superior to many of the surrounding restaurants.
We just returned from a 5 night stay at the Hotel Saint Marie. This was our second stay within the last 8 months and I have to say it rooms and their furnishings have continued to decline! Dresser drawers were broken. One had the bottom partially was missing. The carpet was ripped and about a 2” strip was missing near the balcony door. This was definite hazard. To say that the mattresses are shot is an understatement. They need to be replaced in every room, not just a few. We were told that this was being addressed by the owner.
The other issue that we had in our room was a water leak from air-conditioned intake vent in the bath room. Apparently it started sometime in the middle of the night. My friend went in to bathroom and slipped and fell on the slick floor. Thankfully he was just a little bruised. I reported this to the “manager” the next morning and he said was that he thought he might know what the issues was and would have someone take a look at it. He showed NO concern about the fall. Maybe he suffers from selective hearing! Later we happened to find out from a guest in the elevator that his room on the 5th floor had flooded and his room was uninhabitable. The hotel was full so the “manger” could not give him another room and didn’t offer to find him one at another hotel! This guest said he had to ask for credit for his room and was told “we will see what we can do”. So as it turns out the leak in our celling was due to a flood on the floor above us! Once the mess was cleaned up the dripping stopped.
Our first stay here was over Christmas 2012. We experienced similar issues in our room with a flooding toilet. Maintenance took care of the problem but suggested we switch rooms. Once again I had to speak to the “manager” as he was the only one at the front desk. I explained the issue and the suggestion about moving us to another room to which he replied “well…. I guess we can do that”. How someone so indifferent could have a career in customer service is beyond me. I think he needs to find a new line of work.
We do love the location and the other staff here so I will keep watching the Tripadvisor and hopefully things will improve. I would love to stay here next year but…….

Room Tip: Courtyard balcony rooms are nice size and quite.
