“Best Find in the French Quarter!!!!!”
Reviewed January 10, 2010

My boyfriend and I absolutely LOVE New Orleans and we booked the Prince Conti for 1 week at an amazing rate. When we arrived, our car was ushered in by the valet and the bellman was very speedy and accommodating. When we checked in, we were given real room keys, which we love to get when staying at historic properties. Upon arrival to our room, we found a wonderful clean space, with a comfortable king size bed and a view of the quaint little German coffee shop across the street (I'll get to that in a moment). It was a small room, but that is expected when staying at a historic hotel. It had all the charm and old world feel we were looking for.

The Prince Conti has an ideal location, only 1/2 block to Bourbon Street, but was so quiet; we never heard loud music or noise of any sort. It was so convenient, and we mostly walked to all of our destination. We did take a cab on a few occasions, and the staff and taxis were very prompt and courteous.

I also must reccommend, as mentioned before, a wonderful little German gem across the street called The Jagerhaus. We were tired from a day of walking, and wanted a hot coffee and something sweet. We popped in late, and they served us the most delicious chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream we had ever had!

We tell all of our friends and acquaintances about our experience at the Jagerhaus and the Prince Conti. We will be going back to NOLA in April 2010 and will be staying at the Prince Conti once again. It is such an amazing value and so convenient to everything, we couldn't imagine that another hotel in the Quarter could compare. In my experience, none has so far.

We love the Prince Conti!

The staff was only mildly friendly, and completely disinterested in fulfilling any of our requests for extra supplies. We booked the hotel through a 3rd party website and most of our party works in the hospitality industry. We certainly understand that "those types" of reservations are not considered top-priority, but we felt we were disregarded by the staff. Also, the coffee pot was broken, and the hotel smells like old lady.

Found ourselves a real good deal on their website - $69 for a king suite with breakfast over the weekend before Christmas.

The suite is on the ground floor in a separate wing and consists of a spacious living room with a separate bedroom with a very comfortable oversized bed. Windows look into the lobby so only noise is from other rooms. No gym/fitness rooms but the riverfront prominade is just a quick 5 mins run down Conti St. Take care not to step over the drunk college kids on Bourbon St. Free wi-fi throughout the facilities.

Breakfast is nothing to shout about - better to wander down to Cafe Du Monde for beigenets and spiced coffee.

When I booked our room, the only room available was the petite room which the hotel person warned me was very, very small. We were pleasantly surprised on arrival - he must have meant small by Southern standards, not New York or European standards. The petite room is wide enough for a double bed and 2 side tables and long enough for a closet, armoir, desk and a stand for our suitcase.

The room and bathroom were clean. The room has the olde world look with heavy curtains and thick, patterned carpeting. Everything looked a little worn, including the mattress which was a bit too soft.

Customer service was good and staff are friendly. This is a small, 3-4 floors building so it was quiet - we didn't see many people in the hotel in the 6 days we stayed there.

The hotel is 1 block away from Bourbon Street and all the restaurants. One night when the Saints were playing at the stadium, there was drinking and partying on Bourbon street and we could hear people yelling until the early hours of the morning but it was not loud enough to keep us awake. Bourbon street is closed to traffic at night and people can drink on the street but there are police constantly patrolling the strip so it feels safe that we are only 1 block away from them.

I would recommend this hotel.

parking attendant wrecked my truck. He didnt even bother to tell me. bed was kinda ragged out. hotels.com lied about price. they claimed that they charged us for parking then so did the hotel. well hotels.com really charged us for a extra person. if you want to stay here i would drive a smart car or something with bumpers all the way around it. not to mention they valet guy came back to work 3 hours late the next morning. was he drunk when he wrecked my $30,000 truck? quess it will be a mystery.

  • Liked — price
  • Disliked — paid for them to wreck my truck, they could have offered an appology

As a very fastidious person I have a standard routine to obscure the cash I like to have with me when I travel. At the Hotel Conti in New Orleans, during the day someone came into the room, undid my efforts to obscure the cash and walked off with $2,000.00. To further demonstrate the dangers of this hotel, I had been troubled by the street people sneaking into the complimentary breakfast room and filling their pockets with rolls, apples, etc. One fellow walked out with a stack of 5 cups of coffee. The room is across the driveway entrance to the main part of the hotel. Sadly as I came to learn, the French Quarter of my youth is no longer home to the artists, shops, and interesting people it once was but has been turned over to the street people who prey on tourists. The garden district is still a great walk and has private security guards, in the Quarter only your own street saavy will keep you safe.

We checked in late a t night and the desk clerk was very helpful. Nice, clean, spacious room. No view, but only 1 block from Bourbon street and the hotel was still very quiet.
Would stay here again!
