Clean Freak's Dream!

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Dec 1, 2015via mobile
I used to live in NOLA & come back regularly for business, family and friend travel. What I love most about Royal Sonesta is the commitment to CLEAN! Common areas, rooms, bathrooms, restaurant, cafe. Spotless.
LOVE the NO SMOKING rule surrounding their beautifully landscaped heated year round pool...as I swim laps daily for exercise & health and really appreciate not having to breathe in cigarette fumes while doing so. Thank you, RS (and the considerate smokers) for providing (& abiding) this lovely perk!!
I also appreciate the reservation desk being so flexible with upgrading my room when they are at a lower occupancy time.
The location is great.
The food is great.
Hotel staff is great.

My family stayed in two standard double adjacent rooms over Thanksgiving weekend. The rooms were small, but well appointed, and had been recently renovated. We were facing the courtyard and there was hardly any noise, which is impressive given the street party going on just outside the doors of the hotel. We felt very safe inside -- excellent night time security at the front door of the hotel. The pool was lovely and the interior courtyard beautiful. Convenient to everything -- the perfect location.

Room tip: Rooms facing the courtyard -- the alternative is to face Bourbon Street which would probably be quite noisy.

We stayed here for three nights over 2015 Thanksgiving holiday. This hotel is located on Bourbon Street and Conti, which means you are somewhat "deep" in the French Quarter. The first two nights we stayed in a balcony room on Bourbon. The room we had, 2056, was on the small side and the balcony was one that only had room for a couple chairs. The larger balconies were in rooms located on each end of the hotel on Bourbon. The room was quite well insulated from noise from Bourbon Str. however for light sleepers it could be an issue. The linens were exceptionally nice and the pillows were down and very long. (King size). The towels were not very soft but very clean. (Please note: this is an old hotel so I'd expect the rooms to be on the smaller side). Our room did not have a microwave which would have been nice to heat up food we brought back from the myriad of restaurants in New Orleans. The hotel has great access to all that is the French Quarter. The last night we stayed in a Courtyard room, #2033. It was much quieter. We had a huge shared balcony, probably 15' wide, that overlooked the very pretty courtyard.
The service was exceptional. When we changed rooms because we originally only booked two nights and our balcony room on Bourbon was rented, Chantelle at the front desk took care of us, phoning me twice to give me the status of our new room. (Which this trip became available to us around 10:00 AM).
Parking is typical New Orleans hotel costs - around $40 per night as I recall.
The lobby is quite spectacular, especially when contrasted with Bourbon Street right outside the Sonesta's doors.
I also had my border collie pup as the hotel is pet friendly. There isn't a great area to walk Fido but the grass at the Mississippi is 10 to 15 minutes away depending on traffic. My pouch was estatic sniffing the 200+ years of accumulated "stuff" in the French Quarter.
I'd certainly consider staying here again.

Room tip: Interior rooms for low noise; balcony rooms if noise isn't an issue if you want to observe the madness on Bourbon.Ask for a large balcony!.

Room tip: ask for the courtyard view or anything not facing Bourbon St.

If you want to be in the middle of the action.... Stay here. The hotel is located directly on Bourbon St. We checked in a day early and had no problem getting a room; however our room did have lots of gnats. I think it may be due to the construction. They are renovating the 6th & 7th floors but we got back to the room so late we didn't care too much, plus we were moving to a bigger room (that we originally booked) the next day. We were greeted daily by Malcolm. He is an asset to the company. Such a great doorman with great personality. We moved to the 3rd floor on our second day and this room was much better, but we were facing Bourbon St. this time, so it was kinda noisy. It didn't bother us as we love the city and it really NEVER sleeps. So if you want absolute quietness ask for a room away from Bourbon. I can't wait to return after the are done with the renovation. I have recommended this hotel to all my friends & family!

There was confusion about my bill. Instead of being gracious, the haughty, imperious manager said, "Keep talking and we'll charge you more." Room just ok. Coffee equipment in an awkward closet--had to be taken out in order to connect to the one barely accessible plug. An expensive wash-out.

Room tip: I would not stay here.
