“The best.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2013

We came to New Orleans for a family wedding, and planned to stay for four nights. We were upgraded to the concierge level, which was fantastic, with a lovely lounge with continental breakfast and cocktail hour. The hotel was immaculate, beautiful, and a perfect respite from the noise and clamour of Bourbon Street - you could walk in from the street and suddenly be in a quiet, cool lobby. Rooms were beautiful and clean. The bed is just amazing. During our stay, Superstorm Sandy hit our hometown in New York. We ended up stranded for almost an extra week, and the staff accommodated us in the same room, at a great rate, and could not have been more helpful and supportive (New Orleans understands hurricanes!). Without their help, I don't know what we would have done. Others in the hotel were in the same predicament and everyone was assisted in the same way. Every staff member was terrific, especially the hostess and staff in the Concierge lounge. They took good care of us during an unbelievably trying experience.

I can't recommend this hotel enough - best experience ever, anyplace. We will be back!

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room, best to request one on the inner courtyard. If you like to be part of the...

Karen, we want to thank you for your gracious review. While it’s never enjoyable to be stranded, we are glad to know that we you felt safe and comfortable here away from your home during such a tumultuous time. We hope that your family and home were safe from Sandy and that on your next vacation to the Royal Sonesta and New Orleans will be all about fun!

I rally expected to be wowed on our visit to the royal sonesta but we were left a little disappointed. The staff is kind but a bit disengaged. The lobby is beautiful and ornate but the rooms are def lacking and in need of an update very soon. In understanding this is New Orleans and decor should be traditional but not old. The bedding and pillows quite comfy though. The bathrooms are very small and the shower is terrible and in need of overhaul. There is a pool with a somwhat crazy crowd onthe weekend although being from Florida we wouldnt have gone in as it is really small and not overly clean looking. Ask for an interior pool or courtyard view if youdo not want the craziness of Bourbon St into the night. Our room was very quiet and we were pleased with that. The location of this hotel cannot be best though - def it's best attribute. It is right out the door to the wacky life on bourbon and an easy walk down Royal to the French Market and cafe du monde. Not a bad choice for this area, but do not come expecting 5 star luxury rooms.

Thank you for your candid review of the Royal Sonesta. We are very sorry that we did not meet your expectations on your recent visit to New Orleans, and we apologize that our staff was not as engaging as you had hoped. We pride ourselves on providing excellent guest service and it appears we failed in that regard. We will address your comment in training. We also appreciate your feedback on our guest rooms, and please know that major renovations are planned for 2014 and we will take your comments, particularly about the shower, into consideration while we continue planning the renovations. We would like to invite you back to receive the royal treatment that each of our guests deserve at the Royal Sonesta in the future.

The RS is a nice, quiet hotel in the heart of Bourbon street. The lobby and lounge is quite inviting with a great jazz band playing every night we were there. The first night of our stay, a street construction crew started jack hammering outside our window, at 11:00PM, five floor down. A call to the extremely nice front desk clerk got us moved to another room, within minutes, on the other side of the hotel and away from the construction noise. It is service like that that made our stay very pleasant. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Every person on the hotel staff was extremely nice, friendly and above all informative.

First and foremost, we want to thank you for your review of the Royal Sonesta and Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse. We apologize that street construction initially caused you some discomfort, but we’re thrilled that our dedicated front desk agent was able to accommodate you with a more comfortable guest room. We hope to see you again here at the Royal Sonesta on a future trip!

Loved our stay at the Royal Sonesta from the welcoming helpful staff to the well-appointed room. Bed was comfy and the room was very quiet considering the location. We opted for the R Club Level Room with a private elevator and its special amenities. Loved the R Club lounge for breakfast and happy hour. Staff on this floor was exceedingly helpful and considerate.
Right outside the hotel everything is happening. You are on Bourbon Street and near Music Legends Park. You can walk to Jackson Square, French Market and to the Mississippi River.
The Desire Oyster Bar located in the hotel has some of the best BBQ shrimp to be had. Nice bonus.

Room Tip: For that special touch choose the R Club Level.

We are so happy that you chose the Royal Sonesta on your recent trip from Hawaii! Thank you for the kind words on our R Club staff and all the amenities that our 7th floor concierge level has to offer. We’re also pleased that you enjoyed our convenient location within the historic French Quarter and the fresh Gulf seafood at Desire Bistro & Oyster Bar. Be sure to check out other hotels in the Sonesta Collection, located in South America, Egypt and the United States, on your future travels.

Not only was the service excellent, and the hotel beautiful in every detail, but they had a world class restaurant with two famous chefs, and a great jazz bar located here. Parking was pricey, but in line with other hotels in the French Quarter. A cocktail convention was in town and so the lobby was very crowded and busy, but maybe New Orleans on Bourbon St isn't the place for peace & quiet. Even though the hotel was full, service was quick and friendly in all areas.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the court yard are quieter.

I went with my boyfriend during 4th of July weekend for the essence festival. We arrived at around 2 pm and bourban street was already packed. It was hard to get to the hotel bc of all the people in the streets. Check in was easy but BEWARE parking was $36.00 per day in addition to the $280 per night we were paying to stay there. The only bad thing was that our bathroom sink was clogged and it drained very slowly...disgusting. We just resorted to brushing our teeth in the shower. The party lasted all night on bourban street but we usually were back in the room by 11ish. The noise didnt hinder our sleep. DO NOT stay here if u plan on using your vehicle to see the city. It will be a nightmare maneuvering around the drunkards. The police also block off certain streets so if u don't know the area it can be tricky getting back to the hotel.

My husband and I stayed at the Royal Sonesta for two nights in an R Club room. We enjoyed the R Club lounge for breakfast and happy hour drinks/appetizers, which is included in the price of the room. However, the room is in need of an update. The wallpaper was starting to pull away from the walls, furniture was a bit banged up, air conditioning cooled nicely at times, and did not do a great job other times. The R Club rooms are expensive and I feel that, although the Lounge was nice, the room is overpriced for the shape it is in. The bed was very confortable. The bathroom is functional, small with a small tub. The room was very clean and smelled nice when we walked in. Room service delivery was fast and friendly. The pool at the hotel is small and gets very crowded. The location of the hotel can't be beat. Also, the R Club rooms are quiet. We did not hear outside noise at all. The R Club lounge hours are 7:30am-10:30am for breakfast (until 11:00am on Saturday & Sunday). The cocktail/happy hour is every night from 5:00pm-7:00pm. The lounge area has balcony with nice views.

Thank you for staying in the R Club at the Royal Sonesta Hotel during your recent visit. We are pleased that you enjoyed our location in the historic French Quarter but disappointed to learn that the condition of your guest room was not what you expected. We will work closely with our engineering team to repair the wallpaper and the air conditioning problems so that we can prevent those issues from reoccurring in the future. Thank you for your review and we hope to welcome you back to the Royal Sonesta hotel in the future!
