“Classy even on Bourbon Street”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

It's surprising a hotel this nice exists amongst all the Bourbon Street "action." The inside is beautiful with glass, marble, beautiful floral arrangments, fountains... Every employee was very nice, efficient and helpful. Our room wasn't ready upon our 10AM arrival, so they checked our luggage for us, and the front desk called us personally to let us know when our room was ready. Upon entering our room, our luggage was already there waiting.

We stayed in a balcony room the first night and an interior courtyard room by the pool the other 2 nights. The balcony room was really loud and I was woken up by all kinds of noise till all hours of the morning. But we expected this, so it didn't bother us too much. Had we not had such an early flight, we probably would have been amongst them! We watched a parade go by from our balcony, so that was cool.

I liked the courtyard pool room better though, as it was much quieter. ALTHOUGH, for some reason, an employee was using a leaf blower or some sort of power tool all around the courtyard at 8AM on Monday morning that was so loud and woke us up (and I'm sure tons of other guests). It went on for an hour or 2, so I wasn't able to go back to sleep. That is my biggest pet peeve about hotels- when they think it's appropriate to make a lot of noise in and around the hotel before 11AM. Especially in a town where most people are out late drinking! It's just rude. Also, the maids and/or other guests are constantly slamming the room doors. Again, people being rude or perhaps the doors were just old and heavy. That was my only complaint about this hotel.

Otherwise, the rooms were beautiful and clean, beds were extremely comfortable, room service was quick, and check-in and -out were a breeze. The pool and patio were very nice, relaxing and clean. It was nice to have this oasis away from the craziness of Bourbon Street and a great way to cool off from the heat. Pool towels were provided on lounge chairs as well as complimentary sunscreen and aloe. We could access the pool and patio right from the French doors in our room. Another nice touch was a computer and printer in the lobby for printing out boarding passes. The location is excellent- close to everything you want to walk to- Jackson Square, French Market, Bourbon Street action, trolley cars, shopping, etc. We wouldn't stay anywhere else during another trip to NOLA!

I agree with other guests- for the price of the rooms, they could at least offer complimentary coffee, juice, continental breakfast in the mornings.

Room Tip: The balcony rooms are loud. Interior courtyard/pool rooms are more quiet.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Royal Sonesta! The people running the valet were quick, efficient and super nice. We stayed in a room with a balcony facing the street. It can be quite loud even after we came back to room at 3AM but the amazing beds and super soft pillows made up for it. It's New Orleans there is always a party going on! :) The pillows were so great we actually ordered some when we got home. The room got super cold so no issues with the thermostat. You can walk downstairs and listen to live jazz in a dimly lit lounge then walk over to the hotels Le Booze and people watch everyone walking down Bourbon. Le Booze has always been our favorite place to start off the night with a cigar and a few drinks. The bartenders have been there for years and always remember us when we come back each time from out of town. My favorite restaurant in New Orleans is the Royal Sonesta's Revolution. You have 3 people waiting on you, the food is INCREDIBLE and the wine list is shown to you on an iPad. The "pig out" board is a must for appetizer with amazing sauces -- this serves 2-3 people. Best steak I've had in a long time topped with foi gras butter. Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes to top it off. Incredible dinner. Our stay here made for great memories! Perfect location! Looking forward to the next time.

Room Tip: The balconies are shared. Didn't bother us but if you want a quiet more private location don'...

We stayed here a total of six times this is the only hotel we will stay at when we visit New Orleans. Very nice hotel the minute you walk inside the lobby is beautiful and also the rooms. The staff is very friendly we arrive room was ready took our bags we walking toward French market give us call room when room was ready. Only dislike every night we went same security guard kept asking for room key when we come back . We understand they are there for protection of guest but if they see us leaving going out every night and returning

We stayed club level for our anniversary trip and found the hotel to be PERFECT for a romantic visit to New Orleans. We were on the R Club level and our room was impeccably decorated and maintained and was very quiet. We were steps away from everything. The in-house restaurant, R'evolution, was one of our best meals of the trip.

Parking is expensive - but it's the French Quarter.

Stayed here for a long weekend. It is right in the center of the French Quarter but provides a rest from the chaos. I personally am not a fan of the quarter (its a bit of history meets spring break) but I write this review for folks who believe they want to be on Bourbon Street. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were fine. The jazz club was great. The staff really works hard to please. Downsides: The bathrooms were quite tired (some mold, needed to be recaulked). The pool is dismal. While this is not a luxury hotel, if you want to be able to walk on and off of Bourbon street 24/7, this is a great option.

Room Tip: Quieter rooms on the poolside.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at our hotel. We are happy to read that you found the bed in your guest room comfortable and that you enjoyed the live jazz at Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse. However, we are disappointed to read that you were not pleased with the bathroom in your guest room nor the swimming pool area. We will be working with our engineering and housekeeping departments to remediate the maintenance and issues that you described. Should you find yourself in New Orleans in the future, we hope that you would consider staying at the Royal Sonesta once again.

If you are interested in being "in the heart of the action" in the French Quarter, the Royal Sonesta is a great place to stay. I have stayed there many times and have always had a pleasant experience. They have all sorts of accomodations from a "rowdy" balcony room, to the quieter rooms like the one I stayed in this time...on the back of the hotel where the wing of rooms has it's own balcony over a small quiet courtyard. You don't even have to leave the hotel to get great food: from the Desire Oysterbar to LeBooze( the bar that opens onto Bourbon street) to the wonderfully elegant restaurant R'evolution...it's all in the hotel. You don't have to leave the Sonesta to hear great Jazz, either, since Irvin Mayfield's club is off the Lobby. But since you came to experience NOLA, The Royal Sonesta is close to all the fun!
