“Comfort, class, wonderful people and a great location On Bourbon Street!”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

I have stayed many places in New Orleans and by far this was our best experience! The location can't be beat and the hotel was beautiful. The restaurants in the hotel were amazing and the Jazz bar was Great! Royal treatment by the staff and royal amenities top it all off.

We recently stayed here for our 17th wedding anniversary. I can not say enough good things about this hotel. It is hard to believe that this hotel is right on Bourbon Street. The rooms are very large and extremely clean. We highly recommend buying into the R Club and getting to stay on the 7th floor with your own personal concierge. When we initially checked in we had a view of the rooftops and asked to be moved to a room with a better view. They did not have another room available until 7:00 that night. We went to the reception and our room wasn't quite ready when the reception was over, but they made up for us having to wait. Champagne arrived soon after we got into our room and we were now looking over the beautiful pool and courtyard. Everyone here is more than accommodating. I would strongly suggest buying into the R Club for the breakfast and reception in the evening. The Jazz club was fun and we did not get a chance to check out the Revolution Restaurant. Desire is good as long as you dont stray from the oysters. If you order anything else it is less than average and the staff is not near as friendly as the remainder of the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for the R Club level and stay on the 7th floor, with breakfast and evening reception.

Loretta, congratulations to you and your spouse for 17 years of marriage! We are honored that you choses to celebrate such a special occasion with us at the Royal Sonesta Hotel. We are so pleased to know how much you enjoyed the luxuries in our R Club concierge level. We appreciate your compliments about our dedicated staff within the hotel and we are sorry to read that you found some servers in Desire to be anything less than friendly and hospitable. Thanks again for your feedback and we would be honored to welcome you back for the next opportunity you have to visit New Orleans

I recently stayed at this hotel and I must say I was quite impressed with the cleanliness and the hospitality of the staff.I was not able to arrive on the scheduled date due to a flight cancellation. The staff was extremely understanding and accommodating. I went with my cousin and her family. The staff really nice to the twins (under 2) and ensured we were well taken care of. You cannot beat the location of this hotel. It is literally in the life of it all. I slept like a baby and must admit I miss my hotel bed as it was extremely comfy. I did not eat at the hotel restaurants as I went out to explore. I would definitely return to this hotel when I visit New Orleans again.

As a resident of NOLA, I was hesitant to have our staycation right there on Bourbon Street, but we got a Living Social deal that we couldn't pass up. Upon check-in we were greeted by the lovely Marcel, who upgraded us to a great room after our initial room smelled like smoke. He even insisted on taking us to the new room himself to make sure we were satisfied (we were BEYOND satisfied (thanks Marcel!). Our main goal was having a day at the pool and the Royal Sonesta really does have one of the better pool scenes in NOLA. It got a little packed on Saturday, but was perfect on Sunday. They even have a little station with sunscreen, aloe, tanning oil, etc as well as servers who take your drink order so you don't have to get up. At night we used the hotel coupons for Desire Oyster Bar and again, as a resident I was a little skeptical to eat in what I would normally think is a tourist trap, but that place was awesome. The BBQ Shrimp were to die for and the chargrilled oysters phenomenal - this coming from 4 NOLA residents. After that we headed across to Irvin Mayfields Jazz Playhouse, again to use the hotel coupons, and had a great time listening to live music before heading back to the room. We love that even though we stayed on Bourbon Street, we didn't have to venture out on to Bourbon Street to find a good time. This hotel has it all, highly recommend!

I've always wanted to stay at the Royal Sonesta and have a balcony overlooking Bourbon Street, so to celebrate my retirement, I booked one for 2 nights. The room we got was very small and the balcony even smaller with 2 plastic chairs and no cover. The bed was very comfortable and it was a relaxing stay and we did enjoy the balcony, but felt it was way over-priced for what we got. Another thing that bothered us was that there was no in-room coffee?? We had to go downstairs to the PJ's Coffee shop and pay $3.00 for a cup....I love my in-room coffee in the morning. The staff was very friendly and we enjoyed the restaurants/lounges, etc., and the location, but again, just too much money for what we got in return.

Room Tip: My guess is that if you want a true "balcony", you'll have to rent the suites and they...

Congratulations on your retirement and thank you for celebrating at the Royal Sonesta! We greatly appreciate your review, but we are sorry that your balcony room did not meet your expectations. Because of the configuration of our rooms and balconies, our covered balconies are typically sold as suites, particularly on the weekends. We do offer those covered balcony rooms to guests who have not booked suites when they are available. Please know that in-room coffee makers do not come standard in our guest rooms but are available upon request. We are pleased to hear that you found our staff to be friendly and hope that we can welcome you back for another stay at the Royal Sonesta in the future.

My husband and I eloped to the Royal Sonesta 21 years ago on the 4th of July. We returned last weekend and recreated our wedding picture. It was just as lovely the second time around. Beautiful and elegant, great service. We were married by the pond in the courtyard and it was so sweet to see it again. Not many places in New Orleans have aged as well.

Hotel is well located on Bourbon, with a convenient entrance on Conti (avoid the Bourbon madness if you wish!) The lobby is really impressive, always decorated with fresh flowers.
We had a room overlooking the court, and had no issues with the noise level. We had a great view of the inside courtyard, with great landscaping with the flowers and trees.

The room was nice, and plenty spacious. Everything was functioning, and we enjoyed the free Wi-fi which worked great for simple web searches on our smart phones. The Tv offered a good selection of channels, and some pay-per-view options. No coffeemaker in the room, no issue for us, but I do know there’s caffeine addicts! Very comfortable bedding, and plenty of mirrors (This is a good thing for 2 girls traveling together!).

Hotel offers an environmentally-friendly maid service; they only change your sheets if you indicate you want them changed. It is well indicated, and personally I think it’s a good thing.
I somehow had understood that all rooms had balconies, but it wasn’t the case, it was okay tho as we did end up always being out and exploring this charming city, but I did see guests resting in the courtyard, or by the large pool area so there is space if you want to rest outside.
Hotel offers a pool with towel service, and suncreen, moisturiser and bronzer tray. There is also a by the pool bar. Everything is clean and well kept - Even if you see this is an older building (which does offer quite of a bit of the New Orleans charm). Pool could have been a bit warmer? Just an opinion.

Staff was incredible. Always helpful, and ready to go out of their way. They helped us by lending us umbrellas, giving directions, calling our excursions and even getting us a bowl of rice for a unfortunate flooded-camera accident. Also, the valet up front, amazing person that we got to chat with while we waited out the storm on our last day, and he braved flooded Bourbon to get us a cab!
