“Beautiful and Innovative”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

Upon walking into the foyer, your eyes dance around the beauty of the hotel. There are lights, fountains, people, and restaurants encompassing all of your senses. You might possibly hear jazz from the jazz lounge as you enter or stop in and grab coffee right inside the door. The staff was very helpful and the rooms were beautiful. My favorite part, and something I have looked for once arriving home, are their motion sensor LED night lights. That was the most incredible part. The Royal Sonesta also has rooms with balconies so you can people watch after you come in. Definitely a unique experience, even if you don't like NOLA.

Room Tip: If you want to people watch, chose a room with a balcony.

The room was a little worn, and the parking fee is crazy ($35/day), but the location can't be beat. We planned to stay 3 nights but extended for a fourth. I suggest the inner rooms to avoid the noise from bourbon, unless it's Mardi Grad and you can catch a parade. Then the outside balcony would be awesome. Overall, very pleased.

We stayed here for three nights in January of 2013. The room was small but well appointed, unfortunately, it was overlooking Bourbon St. and the noise was incredible, till 5 in the morning! The thumping bass from the bar across the street was something you could actually feel. It was fun to be able to view the street from the room but again, unless you drink heavily, medicate to the hilt or are just a flat out sound sleeper request a room off the main drag. We switched rooms the second night and the young woman at registration was helpful. However the next room must have been near some type of loading/unloading station as there was a very loud thumping noise (no, it was not the neighbors!) throughout the night. Still, much less noise than the rooms overlooking Bourbon St. The second room had fixtures in the bathroom which were falling apart and I had two incredibly large spiders in the room which unnerved my wife and I. The morning of leaving the woman at the front desk seemed annoyed we were there and was quite rude. The bellman, however, was very helpful. Overall, if you want to be on Bourbon St. it is right in the thick of it. Which, depending on your wishes, is either good or bad!

This beautiful hotel is in the heart of the French Quarter and a welcome respite from the wildness of Bourbon Street. My room was beautiful with modern conveniences, but strangely lacking a coffee maker. This felt unwelcoming, forcing me to take advantage of the expense of room service on top of a very expensive room. This, however was my only complaint. I stayed in the hotel to attend a wedding on site, and the event was absolute perfection from the wedding in the courtyard to the marvelous food at the reception, every detail was first rate. The staff of the hotel was attentive, cheerful and helpful.

Room Tip: Room location is key, depending on your preferences - noise level varies widely based on whether or...

Stayed at the Royal Sonesta for the week between Christmas and New Years. The holiday decorations were magnificent and the hotel was elegant, well appointed and excellent service. NOLA is in such celebration mode.... New Years, Sugar Bowl and the Super Bowl (Go Ravens!!!). An amazing experience!

Room Tip: interior or on Iberville to get any sleep during big events.

We did enjoy or stay but the price is not justified in my eyes. The only perfect thing about this hotel is the location. Rooms are run of the mill and our room was a view of the top of run down buildings. The lobby is pretty & courtyard is nice. I just don't see how they can charge $300-$400 a night.

The hotel was really great and in an amazing location!

I had a room with a little balcony just off of Bourbon - which was great because it was peaceful. I spent 3 nights at the hotel. During the day it was easy to get around and do some sightseeing and at night you were right in the middle of things.

The staff were always helpful and informative!
