“Beautiful Hotel, clean and perfect location”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

The Royal Sonesta is the perfect location. We booked it through Bookit.com so it wasnt very expensive. We got a super clean nice room and the hotel is right in Bourbon st. so we could explore the French Quarter . We didnt eat or drinks at their restaurants/bars cause we went for the cheaper options in the French quarter. I am not sure how expensive it is to book it by itself since we got a good deal at Bookit.com but it would definitely be one of my choices if when i go back to NOLA. Oh and the first night we went back to the hotel around 3:30 am the music outside was crazy and people too however we could barely hear it from our room even though it was on the side of Bourbon st

Friends and I enjoyed a long weekend at the Royal Sonesta. Location right on Bourbon street was convenient to exploring the Quarter. Seventh floor was high enough to leave the noises of Bourbon Street behind when we were ready to call it a night. Cheri and Dan provided great service in the club room -- and we're great company!

Room Tip: If you can afford the club floor....go for it!

It’s a pleasure to know how much fun your group had staying at our hotel! If you prefer the quiet in the R Club, you may also like to try a stay in our interior rooms with a beautiful courtyard view or easy poolside access. Thank you for your feedback, and we will certainly pass along your compliments to Cheri and Dan. Please remember the Royal Sonesta Hotel next time you’re in the Crescent City!

The room was a courtyard view, the windows had mold everywhere. Smelled very musky. Windows were covered in plexiglass, so they couldn't be opened. Both beds sagged. We couldn't get another room due to the fact that they had VooDoo Fest going on. which might explain the inflated rates & parking fees. at $355 (AAA rate) for a standard room, they don't have to worry about me, my family or friends staying. Extremely overpriced plus they charge $39 per night to park your car. Taxes were outrageous!

New Orleans is probably my favourite city in the world, and it's best to get a hotel right in the heart of the French Quarter. We picked the Royal Sonesta because of it's location and because we managed to get a good deal on a room (although having being to New Orleans about 10 times now, I was hesitant staying right on Bourban Street due to the noise). The French Quarter is generally pretty expensive, so be prepared to spend a little bit if you want a nice room.

The Royal Sonesta is much larger than I was expecting, but still has that boutique feel and old French charm to it. Our room really nice, extremely clean, spacious enough and a bit of a view out the window of Bourban Street. We were on the 2nd floor and we didn't really have any problems with noise at all. The staff were all friendly and nice, although we didn't really need to speak to them about directions or recommendations or anything like that.

The location can't be beat - everything is within walking distance from the front door whether it be a stroll to the Mississippi River, Canal Street, Jackson Square, Cafe Du Monde, Markets and the various restaurants and bars of the French Quarter. As we have family in New Orleans, we generally stroll further away from this main area to some of the smaller bars in the Quarter the locals go to, as it's quieter, less chessy and not as noisy. Go to Fiorella's cafe for traditional NOLA food, yummy deep fried pickles, gumbo, red beans & rice, fried chicken and $2 martinis on Tuesday - and good martinis too!

I'd stay here again if the price was right.

Room Tip: Request a balcony room on Bourban Street if you're there to party, or a higher room on the side...

My reservation was handled by Ms. Kesha L. for this hotel, she is a total PROFESSIONAL. She made suggestions that helped me with the pricing of my room. She asked me if I was a member of any discount program and then she chose the perfect balcony room with a gorgeous view. The service at this hotel is over and above all of my expectations. I will definately be back and will recommend the ROYAL SONESTA to anyone.

Thank You !

I'll preface this by saying that we stayed at this hotel about 8 years ago. Back then, I thought it was wonderful and fully worthy of its 4-star rating. Fast forward to 2012....either my beer-goggles are much less foggy or the RS has gone way down in my book. The lobby is nice, and a pleasant escape from the mayhem of Bourbon, and Desire has fantastic food. But the rooms are looking tired, and my sinuses were going crazy from all of the "unseen" dust & must (curtain tops, lamps, & moldings). Our room didn't get cleaned one day, and we were out early. A window of 8-2pm is plenty of time to come back to a clean room. Room service trays stayed in the hallway for 12+ hours, and an empty Gatorade bottle sat on the elevator entry table for two days. The place just felt dirty. I'm only giving it 3 stars, because of the great location. Although, if you are a light sleeper, be warned. Our room faced Bienville, but it was close enough to the corner of Bienville @ Bourbon that heard loud jazz coming from Musical Legends Park 24-7. That was cool with us, but some may have issues. If you're trying to decide between the Royal Sonesta & the Monteleone, I'd pick the latter. I've stayed at both, and I will be at the Monteleone next time.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces Bienville if you want to get further away from the Bourbon noise.
