“Good experience with a few small caveats”
Reviewed May 21, 2013

This is a lovely hotel just off Bourbon St. To avoid the noise, you'll want a courtyard view, or better yet, see if you can get a room in one of the nooks and crannies that dot the layout.

Upon check in, we received two rooms; one for me, and one for my parents. My parents room was already occupied! Luckily, they noticed this from the presence of clothing on the bed, not because people were in flagrante delicto or anything like that. Still, this has to be a minus one from the total rating, right? What if the occupant *had* been present and completely freaked out?

Other than that, the bed was pretty comfortable (a touch firm for me), and the rooms are a reasonable size. I had to request room service because upon returning to my room at 3:00 pm, it still had not been cleaned. It's very easy to navigate the property and make your way to the courtyard, from which you can access the breakfast area (complimentary), the bar (good service and strong drinks, in the true New Orleans style), and the lobby (which leads to Bienville St. and the heart of the French Quarter).

Employees were uniformly helpful and informative. Well, except for the one who checked my parents into someone else's room. But you get the idea. This is a nice, well-located place where they could execute just a touch more carefully to earn a five star rating.

We had an excellent stay at the Mazarin. It is perfectly located. The room was exceptionally clean and well maintained. The breakfast was plentiful and good (excellent grits). Complimentary water bottles and mini fridge in the room and free wifi are great to have. We had a very quiet room, but our friends had a room facing Bienville Street near Bourbon Street and they had trouble sleeping due to noise. We had no issue at all.

My stay at this hotel was a happy accident. I was unable to get a room at the large hotel a block away hosting a conference that was the reason for my trip to New Orleans, and had to settle for the Hotel Mazarin. I could not have been happier. Coming home to my sparkling, roomy, quiet 3rd floor courtyard room after being stuck in a huge stuffy busy impersonal hotel for a day of meetings was heavenly. The staff was friendly and bent over backwards to help with whatever I needed, including one of them leaving the front desk at 10 pm to personally escort one of our small party to buy a bottle of wine at a store nearby, and providing an ice bucket and glasses for us to enjoy it in the courtyard. This place is a breath of fresh air.
Quiet, welcoming, luxurious but unpretentious, clean, comfortable -- nothing not to like. I honestly did not explore the restaurant beyond the simple but excellent daily breakfast provided with the room.

We fell in love with this place and their staff the moment we entered the doors. Manny never steered us wrong, Jeffrey had our back at every corner, our breakfast and servers couldn't have been better, our rooms where kept spotless, yet our privacy was never interrupted and the cookies at the desk? Mercy! Those were the best things ever! We were walking distance to everything, yet guarded from the noise. We were always met with an ample supply of refreshing fruit infused cool water to rehydrate us from the heat of the day of the drink of the night. It was southern hospitality at it's fines and that wine bar is to die for! We missed you guys the minute we left! We'll be back!
Diane, Kathy and oh yeah...those two guys we brought with us.

Room Tip: We stayed on the inside of the courtyard which was better for is baby boomers

This was a great find. Historic feel but not too big or overdone. Two blocks from Canal Street, one street over from Bourbon. Our room (#208) faced the courtyard with a picturesque fountain that blocked out any possible noise from the French Quarter. The courtyard was a pleasant place to hang out and the bar right next door connected to it. Clean, spacious room. Modern bathroom, although we mentioned to the front desk that the sink area (2 separate sinks were great!) needed hooks or racks for hand towels. Ample, yummy complimentary breakfast, helpful staff. Will definitely recommend this to friends.

This is a nice boutique hotel. The location was great and despite being within a block of Bourbon Street, we had no noise issues in our courtyard-side room on the 4th floor (5 floor hotel), even through the weekend. It is a short walk to the river, French market, and lots of nice restaurants. The room was nice, but a bit crowded for 3 of us (my daughter stayed with us). There is limited closet/drawer space. The bathroom was modern and very nice. The included breakfast is very good and convenient. The service from the breakfast manager and restaurant staff was excellent. The front desk service was spotty - The late night manager was excellent, but the staff during the day was good and bad; sometimes very helpful, other times I felt like I was imposing. When I asked if there irons in the rooms, I was told, "no, there are no irons and none I could borrow". But, when we got to the room, we found a very nice iron and board in the closet! I had to ask twice for extra hangers (no, they didn't appear very busy). Sometimes I got help getting a taxi, while other times, I was told that "where I was going wasn't too far" (despite the rain). As far as the neighborhood, we felt safe. We walked miles and miles each day through the Quarter, and one night, walked to a restaurant at Jackson Sq. and then back after dark with no concern.

Room Tip: We had no noise with a courtyard room on the 4th floor

On a quick trip, first time to New Orleans. This smallish hotel is right in the active area in the French Quarter. You can walk to most of the French Quarter from this location so it is great for that. This is a Boutique hotel though and all of them have their charm and their flaws. This hotel had a great central covered courtyard where you can eat the daily breakfast offering. Think Hampton Inn buffet for breakfast. But the setting and location are nice enough.

You are doors from everything here, but once you enter the hotel you are away from it all and can rest or lounge in a classically decorated bar on site or in the expansive courtyard - away from Bourbon street, the crowds and the random noises of people that are announcing they are in New Orleans to party. The room was small, but clean and off in a second back and isolated courtyard. The bed was soft and comfortable. Check in no problem. There is no parking so if you have a car be prepared for a Valet parking charge.

SO if you want a place to find quiet that is minutes away from the craziness of Bourbon and the French Quarter, this hotel works well.
