For my trip to New Orleans because I was traveling at Carnival season I stayed in two hotels the Monteleone and the Omni Royal. Of the two both my mother and I loved the Monteleone.
First the good, the Staff was very attentive even during the craziness of Carnival. The Caruosel Bar is everything it is cracked up to be so don't miss it. Our room a preferred double was lovely. The ceilings are high. The beds and pillows are soft so you sink into them. The bathroom is an oasis well lit so you can put makeup on and there is even a nghtlight that comes on when you turn off the light. It is one block from Bourbon so it is close but separate from the craziness there. Walgreens is right outside the door so you can get whatever it might be that you forgot.
First the bad, you won't be impressed when you walk into the hotel. The lobby is small and serviceable and there are only two elevators.
About the only ugly I can think to mention was the crowds from Bourbon sometimes spill down there so you may have to deal with rowdiness. It is also a good 5 blocks from Jackson Square. But if you like walking and want a plush, lovely place as your home away from home don't book another hotel.More
