I stayed at the hotel for a few days around Christmas 2013 and I found it to be well appointed, like the old hotels in San Francisco, with a comfortable bed and soft cotton bedding. I had a small suite and it was a great place to be when not out exploring.

The hotel decorated for the holidays and it was done in a classy way. There were always several staff members around who were helpful and friendly. The hotels location is great, walking distance to great shopping and awesome restaurants.

The food service was excellent and I wasn't disturbed by housekeeping or staff. While some would disagree, I would have liked to have had access to an in room mini-bar for bottled water and soda. Watch out for the big service fee bump on food and drinks, it's not as bad as Las Vegas but it's still a heathy increase.

Overall I was impressed with my short stay and I would happily return.

Just returned home from the New Orleans Rock and Roll Marathon. We stayed at the Monteleone. We are repeat guests and I must say it was as wonderful as ever.
Great room,(spotlessly clean),excellent staff and service, and perfect location!
The lobby is beautiful and of course the Carousel Bar cant be missed!
The Keurig(sp) coffee maker in the room was a plus. Great bath products, plenty of Can't wait to return !!!

Room Tip: High floor- great view- quiet

My wife and I were in New Orleans for a long weekend and stayed at the Monteleone. We stayed in the least expensive room category booked through a vacation package and I expected it to be "just OK." We were pleasantly surprised to find that it was wonderful. It was on a low floor (5) and did not have a great view, but the furnishings and décor were lovely and the bed/pillows were very comfortable. Despite the low floor number, we never had a noise problem and we were there for election night! The staff was always helpful and every part of the hotel we were in was exceptionally clean. We did not have many bags, but the doormen were certainly friendly and would have helped us carry luggage if we had needed it. The location is fantastic, we walked all over from here. There must be a dozen incredible restaurants within a couple blocks, making dinners a difficult choice of which delicious place should we go to next. Incidentally - regarding the hauntedness of the Monteleone - my wife was a little freaked out when we arrived back here at around 2:30am on a Friday night and she thought she saw someone walking the hall, but when she looked again they were gone. Haunted? Maybe... Excellent? Yes.

I stayed at Hotel Monteleone with a group of friends for 3 nights, and overall had a great stay. Pros: nice lobby, good service, spacious rooms, comfortable beds, great location in the french quarter, and good bath products.
Cons: bathrooms were very small, bed frames were a bit unstable (though comfortable), and unfortunately they only had 2 double beds versus 2 queens in the rooms.
Overall, would recommend this hotel to people looking to stay in the heart of the french quarter.

Stayed at the Hotel Monteleone for the Rock and Roll Marathon and it was perfect. We stayed here years ago, but had forgotten how nice this hotel is and location is ideal. Classic hotel with a fantastic lobby and the lobby bar is a must if you are in the city. Everything we did was an easy walk or cab from the hotel, and really like being on Royal. Our room had a great view of the river and would highly recommend for business or pleasure if you are visiting New Orleans. Offers the perfect New Orleans feel. Only downfall was the fitness center which is fairly small, but it does have a great view of the river and the Quarter.

My husband and I recently stayed at this hotel for three nights. We were originally supposed to stay an additional night but had to leave early due to my husband's meeting being cancelled with an impending ice storm to the area. I would have to say that even with the weather hiccup, our stay was most enjoyable. Jean at the reservation check in desk was wonderful (you keep bustin' those moves, girl - LOL!), and kindly upgraded us to a lovely suite. It was very spacious and nicely appointed, the only slight negatives would be that the wifi was very slow in the room (and lost connection repeatedly), there were a couple of spots in the bath where the wallpaper was coming off (just needs a hit with some paste), and the bathroom lighting is a bit dim for applying make-up. But as mentioned, these are truly minor. Housekeeping was thorough and the turn down service a very nice touch. I found linens and toiletries to be of nice quality. We had heard that the Carousel Bar was not working, but were pleased to find it repaired and operational. My husband and I enjoyed drinks and music there on Saturday evening after dining out with friends. All of the staff we found to be most pleasant and accommodating. Special kudos go to the valet staff and two concierge members I dealt with. Again, i would not hesitate to patronize this hotel again, I look forward to a third visit which I hope will be soon!

On the bottom of my bill it said ....."if you had a pleasant stay then please give us 5 stars on TA", or words to that effect ..........

In my world pleasant doesn't mean the best stay so my review gives them 4 stars - some average and some very good attributes so will err upwards.

+

- location fantastic
- room very nice decor but a bit threadbare in places
- wifi fast and robust but then it should be for $12.95 - should we really be paying for this in this day and age ?
- bed fantastically comfortable
- event catering really pretty exceptional, a great and diverse menu well cooked
- shower great
- the guy that tells stories and gives groups the most complete safety briefing ever
- the decor is much more tasteful than it looks in the website pictures - the hotel doesn't in fact look like Liberace's living room :-)

Not so great

- crappy pillows - too short and soft
- bedding generally
- smallest bathroom possible to get a full bath in
- drinks service in the bar pretty slow
- didnt find the staff particularly attentive or friendly
- annoying habit of events staff talking in background during people reporting out in a workshop

All in all pretty good though with some areas to improve
