“Great location; historic hotel”
Reviewed January 19, 2014 via mobile

We stayed here again for a conference - 3rd year in a row - and each time is perfect. Location is very convenient -in the quarter but not in a rowdy area. The hotel is historic so the rooms are small but clean, classic and bathrooms updated. Lobby is beautiful. The best part is the Carousel Bar. Beautiful and cozy with grate atmosphere. Live music too. Royal Street has great antique shops.

Here for a seminar and so glad I came! Yes, the rooms are tiny, but can't beat the comfort and amenities. Good hit shower with excellent lighting! A magnifying mirror would be a nice addition, but not much else needed. Coffee in room and a small fridge! And I am sure this is the cheapest room! The staff is friendly and aim to please! Great stay, thank you!

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights as my husband had a conference held on the premises of the hotel. The location is good as other reviewers already noted but the rooms are tiny.
We were unlucky to have a room next to the elevator so it was noisy at night, the AC unit worked terribly as it could not regulate temperature.
The beds were short so the feet were hanging in the air ( i am 5"8, my husband is 6" tall) and the pillows were very uncomfortable.
2 concierges were sort of helpful but a smile would be nice.
The receptionist was absolutely stone cold and unhelpful when I reported a cockroach in the room. I killed the bug crawling on the bed spread in the morning. Not an apology or some kind of gesture. She did offer to change the rooms but we were checking out the next day so it did not make any sense. A word sorry would also help but no, this hotel probably has too much business anyway and the staff hopes not to see you again.
The only person who really made our stay pleasant was a nice young Caucasian door man who smiled and was very polite, helpful. Because of him I am giving this hotel 2 stars.

Our family stayed at the Hotel Monteleone for four nights during New Year time. It has been recommended to us by friends, and were we glad we made the decision!
Many locals, upon hearing where we'd stayed, gave us a nod of approval. It is truly a classic and a gem. Perfectly located in the Quarter, the hotel exuded old world ambiance and the staff is helpful and friendly yet efficient. Yes, the bathrooms are a little old and the toilet can be noisy, but we understood- this is not a Four Seasons. The rooms were comfortable and nicely appointed. We ordered room service several times and everything came quickly and was delicious. We were on a high floor and it was quiet, except on New Year's Eve when several drunk neighbors came knocking, but that is not the hotel's fault.
When we came, the Monteleone was beautifully decorated for the holidays and super busy. The lobby is small and full of hustle and bustle. You must stop by the Carousel Bar for a drink- it gets jam packed late night!

Room Tip: High floor facing the river (even though you cannot technically see the river because of the levee...

My friends and I stayed at the Hotel Monteleone over a weekend in December. Its a grand old New Orleans hotel in the perfect location. The rooms tend to run small but the decor is awesome. And the place was decorated beautifully for the holidays. I'd recommend the hotel for shorter vacation stays when visiting New Orleans rather than a long stay.

My wife and I recently spent a month travelling through parts of the USA, much of it re-tracing footprints I left some 35 years ago. Our choice of hotel in New Orleans was the Monteleone in the French Quarter, just off the famous Bourbon Street.
Upon arrival we were told, by the very friendly and efficient front desk staff, that we had been upgraded to the William Faulkner Suite on the apparently "haunted" 14th floor. Well if the floor is haunted I could very well understand why the ghosts chose this floor. Our suite was absolutely exquisite! Spacious and contained everything we needed (except for proper porcelain cups, the Americans seen to have a thing about disposable paper cups!) A quick phone call to housekeeping and our cups were sorted out.
The beds were some of the most comfortable we encountered on all of our many foreign trips and getting a good night’s sleep was no problem at all.
Breakfast was fantastic and by far one of the best we had during our whole month long trip.
The hotel has an old time elegance about it that may not appeal to the youngsters of today who for some reason prefer clinical cells that have no character. Staying here was like stepping back into the elegant past and the Monteleone will most certainly be our #1 choice if we ever return to the Big Easy.

Room Tip: William Faulkner Suite

All the staff & doormen were super friendly & helpful! I never went in & out the front lobby door without the doormen greeting & assisting me. The front desk staff was very personable & helpful, too. We loved the Carousel Bar. What a unique bar experience ...& the best grasshoppers & bourbon milk punch ever! Our room was quite elegant & quiet, too....very comfy. I spent 3 hours of heaven in the spa, and the treatments were amazing. I highly recommend The Monteleone..it's a jewel in the crown of Mardi Gras!

Room Tip: Our room on the side fronting away from Royal St was very quiet.
