Beauty of the hotel: Excellent
Proximity to FQ attractions: Excellent
Hotel Bar (The Carousel): Excellent
Customer Service: Average
Room size: Average
Amenities: Average
Maintenance: Poor

This hotel is gorgeous. It is well decorated and has an aura of old Southern Charm. There is a restaurant on site but we didn't eat there during our stay. There is also a bar in the hotel called the Carousel. The Carousel is so much fun. It looks like a carousel with seats around it and it actually rotates every 15 minutes. Try the Pimm's Cup cocktail - it is delicious. This hotel is on Royal, which is parallel to Bourbon Street. It's an easy walk to anywhere in the French Quarter and Frenchmen Street (maybe 15 minutes at a casual pace). Lots of food choices, bars, and shopping right outside the door.

That being said, the rest of the stay was average. The customer service at check-in was good and I was able to get questions answered. However, at check-out I feel like it was more confusing than it needed to be and I got a little attitude and the bill was still charged to the wrong card - but it wasn't horrible by any means. The room was so small, expecially the bathroom. I often stay in NYC hotels and am used to smaller rooms but the bathroom we had the toilet was right up against the vanity so you couldn't bend your arm except without going underneath the vanity. My husband was there for a conference and he got a special room so maybe the "special" conference rooms are the most basic ones they have? Maybe the regular rooms are better?

I'm not sure about all of the hotel amenities but wireless was $9.99 a day and my husband called an 800# for a conference call and was charged. There was a business center but they charge for computer use and printing. I feel like a lot of hotels, even in heavy tourist areas, are moving towards free wireless or at least a free business center. This hotel didn't provide either but it did provide an airline check-in kiosk that allowed you to print boarding passes for free so that's nice.

Lastly, I think the room maintenance, for lack of a better word, is in need of some upgrades. The toilets were the kind in older public restrooms with the lever and the loud flush. Ours leaked where the pipe and toilet joined. There was a night light in the bathroom that you couldn't turn off that was bright at night. The air conditioning was hard to use because it was really old. There was a thermostat on this wheel thing that had temps in increments of 5 so you could put it on 65 or 70 or somewhere in between but it was hard to get the right temp in the room. The windows looked really old. The room was really noisy - which is fine if you want the noise of the French Quarter in your room. I prefer going out an exploring and coming back to quiet and that wasn't our room. I feel like if they upgraded the windows to triple pane it'd be much quieter. Or even put in complimentary ear plugs or sound machines in the room - just a nice touch for people who could use something to drown out the noise.

I go to New Orleans every 5 - 10 years so depending on the purpose of my trip (party in French Quarter) or relaxing or a bit of both, I'd consider staying here again if I got a good price.

Great location in the middle of everything! Old hotel feel to it but in a good way! The Carousel Bar is great and the Criollo food and service excellent...There are just a few sticking points...Dragging our bags from the cab, up the stairs and to the registration desk gave a distinct "holiday inn" feel, as well as cramming them in all around us in the elevator.. At check out I asked to have our bags collected from our room and we were told that we had to be in the room for security purposes but when we spoke directly to the bell desk, he did it anyway without us...And showering in ankle deep water attests to the "below sea level" posture of the hotel! Our executive suite (762) had a less than picturesque pock-holed brick wall as our window view..But all the positives at the periphery of this old landmark made for a fun time!

We stayed at the Monteleone last week for my work for a conference. The hotel is really nice and very well located. Like others mentioned the staff there is experienced and that contributes to a great stay.

On the downside our room was small with a very small bathroom. Also we could hear noise easily in our room.

Everything went really well with our meeting there and everyone I had a chance to work with at the hotel was nice and efficient.

Since this was our second trip to NOLA I can say that I definitely prefer to stay away from the French Quarter and would most likely stay at the Carlson Country Inns and Suites again (see my other review for this hotel). The Monteleone is definitely in the middle of it all right in the French Quarter.

"GORGEOUS" hotel with plenty of history! Excellent all the way around. Prefessional and courteous staff, wonderful food, elegant atmosphere, great location for shopping in the French Quarter! The hotel is quite large, and somewhat of a maze. The pool is on the top floor, with a welcoming atmosphere, along with a bar and a gym. The "Carousal" bar in the lobby is amazing, and it actually spins slowly around!

Room Tip: The suite's are quite comfortable.

I wanted to absolutely love the Monteleone. Its the one classy New Orleans hotel thats actually in the French Quarter. That means you can go for walks in the Quarter from your hotel without crossing Canal Street, which is --at least in comparison with the rest of the city--a sun baked urban wasteland. The hotel staff is experienced, courteous and well trained. The roof top pool is a marvlous place to take refuge from all the activity of the city. Restaurant and room service are top notch. I am sure an old hotel like this has its share of undesirable rooms so bargain hunters should be wary. I had an "executive suite" which was spacious, quiet and fairly priced. My reservations about the hotel some from two miserly add on charges. FIrst, they charge a $5.00 fee for delivery of FedEx type packages. Its a small thing but annoying. With the tip I gave the bellman, delivery of a FedEx pacage ran $7.00 which seems a lot. Second, not only do they charge $9.99 for internet service, they charge $12.99 for upgraded service. I opted for the basic service and, indeed, it needed upgrading badly. It was signifiicantly slower than the 3G service I have on my IPad. Its a small thing but, it reallybruned me that I paid $9.99 for bad internet service. One other minor quibble: the lobby was always full of people with backpacks who seemed to be gathering to go on a tour. That's certainly a minor complaint but it does mean the elegant lobby is a place you tend to avoid except when necessary.

Room Tip: Be wary of bargains.

For the third year in a row, we chose to stay at the Monteleone during our getaway to New Orleans. And once again, it was the perfect choice. You simply can't beat the location on Royal Street-- one block of Bourbon and close to all of our favorites (Galatoires, Acme Oyster, Brennan's) and without all the noise.

This year, we were thrilled to see the renovations at the Carousel Bar. Very classy and much roomier. The new restaurant Criollo looked beautiful and the menu was very tempting. We had fully booked our dinner schedule but will definitely add Criollo next year.

As for the rooms, you can't beat a Royal Salon room. Plenty of extra space, incredibly comfortable king bed, double sinks, glass shower, jacuzzi tub and an exhaustive supply of towels.

We always enjoy the rooftop pool-- and were still able to take a dip in late October in comfort.

The staff as always was top notch-- from opening the door to the front desk. You'll love the vibe at this place (always people coming and going-- full bar, trendy restaurant). The place to be in New Orleans.

Room Tip: Royal Salon Rooms are great-- or ask for a room that is not on Royal Street.
