“Excellent location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2011

This hotel has to be in the absolute best location to access the french Quarter. The rooms are very clean and an amazing value relative to the other hotels in the area. The staff was a bit indifferent when asking questions about location of tourist attractions. I imagine they have so many patrons asking them the same questions over and over they become apathetic. Overall an excellent place to stay.

I booked four rooms for a friend's 40th bday party this past weekend (Sept 24 2011). We ended up not needing one room and called exactly 24 hours in advance to cancel the room. The reservations lady said you will be charged no matter what bc there is a 72 hour cancellation policy. I would think 24 hours is sufficient!!! Not to mention, one friend needed her room for another night so we were still spending the exact same amount of money.
So, We arrive to check in and they demanded that we still pay for the room we did not need ($300.00 might I add). We stood at the counter for 30 minutes trying to get checked in. (They said "Christian" was the mgr on duty who wouldn't let us out of our room) After I was charged for the room, they did not even give me a key to it!! I had to ask for the key to the room I was charged $300 for!
Anyway, this was the start to a fun weekend planned in New Orleans and it was ruined by the hassle and run around given by the staff at the Monteleone. Obviously, they only care about ripping their customers off instead of making it an enjoyable experience.
We went straight to the Ritz Carlton around the corner to have drinks because we did not want to spend another dime at the Monteleone. Of course, you can imagine the difference in customer service.
If I were you, I would book at the Ritz where you will be treated like you should be!! I will NEVER stay at the Monteleone again!! EVER!
OH!! one more thing...be sure to check the price they quote you for room and the price they print on your bill when you get there. Totally ridiculous! Sonya Dye

We (family of 4) stayed at Hotel Monteleone during Christmas in 2010. We were travelling with our children and for the first time our dogs. It was a great choice. Perfectly located, beautiful hotel, warm friendly staff. Our suite was spacious enough for all of us. It's an easy walk into the "fun areas" but while inside the room you don't hear any noise. Can't wait to come back!

Dear 243travel,

Thank you for choosing the Hotel Monteleone as your home away from home last Christmas. As a family owned and operated hotel, there is nothing we love more than family time, including pets. We hope to see you again soon!

Love the location. Central to shopping, nightlife, dining - fine & quick. Though under construction, I was only mildly inconvenienced by the closed sidewalk and NEVER heard the usual construction noise.
The majority of the staff, from waitstaff to housekeeping to bellmen were excellent - professional, respectful, extremely helpful and went beyond my expectations to assist. The only exception were some of the doormen - way too busy chatting up people when people were arriving with heavy bags, etc. Not ALL of them. Just a few.
Loved the history of the place, especially the carousel bar, and I must admit that I tried to do a little ghost hunting. The continental breakfast had something for everyone.
A large convention came in about halfway through my trip, and because there wasn't a specific smoking area, we had to wade through a wall of smoke and smokers to get into the hotel. However, when I addressed it with staff, they acted on it immediately.
The gym is impeccably clean and OPEN 24 HOURS. Ellipticals, lifecycles, treadmills, Nautilus-like weights. Awesome for travel insomniacs.
Pool was always clean - its on the 16th floor.
Take advantage of the room upgrade opportunities - I ended up with a Jacuzzi room for only about $20 more per night.
I will ABSOLUTELY be staying at this hotel on my next trip.

What a beautiful hotel! There were four adults and three children, including a 5-year old, and EVERYONE enjoyed this lovely, historic hotel. The location in the French Quarter is one block off of Bourbon Street. The good news is that we never heard any B-Street noise. AND the good news is that both of our rooms had beautiful views, including a view of the river. We had requested two rooms adjoining or near each other and they accommodated us beautifully with rooms across from one another. There is some construction going on but we never heard any noise from it and it did not disturb the lovely ambience of the Carousel Bar. The continental breakfast buffet was one of the finest I've ever seen with fresh pastries and croissant, none of your packaged stuff. The staff treated the children very well and it was a chance for our grandchildren to get a taste of an elegant hotel and how they should behave in it!!! There is a delightful pool on the roof, with plenty of chairs and towels. The children really enjoyed that. And there is a bar as well. The pool is of a goodly size and they use some of the newer chemicals - not chlorine. There are antique stores and bookstores in the immediate area and the French Market is probably a 20-minute, fascinating walk away. That's assuming you won't stop at any of the stores and the fact is that you probably will! The hotel has a fascinating history which includes quite a few famous names. It also is said to be haunted, although we did not have the pleasure of meeting any of the resident spirits. I WILL come back to New Orleans and I WILL stay at the Monteleone!!!

Room Tip: Ask for or book a "premier" room. Higher floors, better views.

Enjoy this beautiful old hotel situated in the heart of the French Quarter. Check in and out was very efficient. Super clean with friendly staff. We stayed 4 nights in early September and although they are in an "under construction" mode we never heard a thing. We were offered free Continental Breakfast for an inconvenice the construction may have caused, but there was none!!! Rooms are fairly small but very clean and the beds were excellent. I would highly recommend. There have been quite a few movies filmed at this hotel, probably the most know was "Double Jeopardy" with Ashley Judd. Just a little trivia!!!!

The hotel is in a prime location in the heart of the French Quarter. The room we had was a bit small but enjoyable nonetheless. The staff was the most friendly and attentive I've ever had the pleasure to deal with at a hotel. We had requested a fan to help with air circulation and the staff sent one up within 15 minutes of our request. Room service was also quite fast. The staff was very knowledgeable about the best places to dine or even have food delivered.
