My husband & I stayed at the hotel during the Sugar Bowl because of the great rates and it's close proximity to Bourbon St and the Superdome. The hotel is smaller, but has great accomodations including a restaurant and bar in the lobby and large rooms. It is a little further out of the way, but we actually enjoyed walking to the Lafayette Cemetary, St Louis No 1 Cemetary, Frenchman St, all thru the French Quarter, and to the Garden District. There are two nice coffee shops nearby, the Lafayette Square, and a couple of fun restaurants/bars. The art galleries and museums are a short walk as well. Would definitely stay again!

Icing on the cake: I left my ipod and headphones in the romo safe when we checked out. I called the next day and the hotel will be shipping them to me. I did not think I would ever see that thing again. Props to the hotel for their honesty and for going above & beyond expectations.

Room Tip: Our room faced towards St Charles Ave so the street car was a little loud, but did not disrupt our sleep in any way. The room was really nice. Our friends had a 2nd floor room that faced the Lafayette Square that they enjoyed too!

Friendly staff and easy going. Room had no minibar and needed a better coffee maker. Good interior, large bathroom and good toiletries.
The ice machine kept breaking but staff were happy to help out. Huge bed but needed more linens and blankets that were of higher quality. View of the streetcar, great location that was close to the action but quiet.

I highly recommend this hotel. It had a great location (right next to Lafayette Square), 1 block off Poydras St, within walking distance to Harrahs, Riverwalk (closed for renovation), and the Aquarium. The valet parking was $28 per night and the WiFi access was $4.95 per night. Our second floor room was spacious and had a balcony overlooking Laf. Square Park. I booked through HotelsTonight (an iOS app for last minute rooms) and got a great rate. I have posted a few photos on the app.

Room Tip: Go for room 207-209, Perfect views of the Park with a balcony.

The Lafayette is faded and worn, but that is what allows it to be a good value compared to nearby pricey top-end hotels. Staff is very nice and accommodating, location is excellent (walkable from the Amtrak/Greyhound station and to the French Quarter). Likes: comfortable bed, good shower, decent in-room coffee, nearby Rouse's grocery/deli. Dislikes: noisy air conditioning unit (but I have to admit it did a good job of de-humidifying the New Orleans air).

Room Tip: The St Charles streetcar goes right by the hotel, so be prepared for street noise. Upper floors are farther from the noise (we were on the 4th floor, and very glad to be that high).

An older hotel away from the French Quarter. I chose this hotel primarily because it is located right at the start line for the NO Mardi Gras Marathon. The hotel is old and dated and not very close to anything. Very limited restaurant choices within quick walking distance. Situated right on the street car line this is a double edged sword. The convient access to the street car is offset by the noise it makes going by as your sleeping. It sounded like someone pushing a dumpster as it passed. Although old, it was somewhat charming. The suite was huge with two very large rooms separated by a bathroom. I would have preferred that the door to the enjoining suite not be there though. The staff was very friendly and quick to offer assistance. I would likely try someplace else more centrally located next time, but if your coming for the marathon and want to walk out your room into your start corral, this is the place. Quick fact, if you watched the movie JFK, this Hotel in on the Lafayette Square that is referenced in the scene about the one building with two addresses where Oswald worked.
