We were very pleased with this hotel. The historical building is nicely restored and our room was very clean with newer furniture and a very comfortable bed. We particularly enjoyed the 2nd floor balcony for relaxing and people watching. The hotel is two blocks from Bourbon St. which makes reaching the action very easy. The area around the hotel is quiet. The only complaint was the steep stairs. If they would be a problem for you request a first floor room. Breakfast is a pastry and coffee. If you want something more substantial then walk a block down to Rampart St. and have breakfast at the Decadence Shoppe. So good!!

the room was clean, quiet and simply appointed with comfortable beds and colours that were easy on the eye. loved the banana tree fruiting happily in the courtyard. bathroom amenties were fragrant and the coffee supplied is Community coffee house brand...extremely drinkable! the staff are friendly and there is even a welcoming fat cat.

Room Tip: if you pick one on the top floor you'll find the bath drains faster :o)

I stayed here in August 2008 (sorry but I've only just joined tripadvisor) and it is one of my favourite hotels that I've visited.
The hotel itself is everything you would expect from being in New Orleans, the wrought iron fencing, the architecture, fantastic. We booked in downstairs and were greeted by the receptionist Richard (a loss if he is not there any more). He booked us in with no problems and showed us to our room. The rooms themselves are fantastic. Unbelievably clean, spacious and a luxurious considering the money we paid.
When I went downstairs to enquire about a safe (free of charge at time) I got talking to the receptionist who said he was out that night and would we like to tag along so we had a guide. We started in his friends bar and I can't go into what we saw that night as what goes on in New Orleans stays in New Orleans. I will say though in comparison Amsterdam is like a Sunday school outing.
After the first night we pretty much settled in to doing the touristy stuff, drinking coffee and eating beignets in cafe du monde and visiting the voodoo museum.
I would definitely recommend this hotel and will be staying here again on my next visit.

Room Tip: Top tips. See pat o'briens fire fountain. Great bar just of Bourbon street. If it gets too hot...

The Inn on St. Peter was a nice surprise, courtesy of Bookings. A few blocks away from noise and commotion of Bourbon St. but close enough to walk everywhere. We were awakened by the clip-clop of horse hooves in the morning: a carriage headed down to the riverfront! Duane was especially helpful with re-coding our key cards and finding us a place to park.

For quaint yet clean and comfy, this is a great spot at a great price.

Room Tip: You might want to ask for a second-floor balcony room.

We didn't want to stay at a chain hotel, so after reading the recent praise on TripAdvisor for the Inn on St. Peter, we decided to book a room. We knew going in that room would likely be small and spartan and that there would be no extra amenities like a pool, spa or fitness center. That was fine as we knew we'd spend most of our time out of the room exploring the city.

The three hotel staff members we encountered were all very welcoming and helpful. The nice man who checked us in even provided some great recommendations for dinner.

At first glance, the room, albeit even smaller than expected, appeared clean and even recently renovated -- flatscreen tv on the wall, tile in the bathroom and the shower, fluffy duvet on the bed. However, after staying there for two nights, we determined the best thing about the St. Peter house is the location. The inn is located within easy walking distance to Bourbon St. and Frenchman St., which are well-known nightlife areas, as well as public transportation to get to other areas of the city.

The hotel is very run down, and not in a charming sort of way -- more like it hasn't been cared for. We knew the hotel was old, but that wasn't the problem. The problem was the cramp, dark room with its musty smell, dirty floors, the hairs in the sheets, and the stains on the bathroom wall. The toiletries provided in the bathroom had not been refreshed after the previous travelers had left -- so there was a used bar of soap on the sink and nearly empty containers of shampoo and conditioner in the shower. Thankfully there was an unopened package of soap, and I'd packed my own shampoo. Soon after discovering how dirty the floors were in the main room and the bathroom (hairs, dirt, small pebbles and other unidentified debris), we dug our flip-flops out of our luggage and wore those anytime we needed to walk around in the room. We didn't try to change to another room because when we first called to book a room, we were given the impression that we snagged the last available room. Another problem was the continental breakfast -- coffee and store-bought danishes (that may or may not come with a bonus insect on top -- ewww!)

Thank you for sharing your experience at the Inn on St Peter with us and other's on Trip Advisor. We are so pleased that our staff was able to provide the level of service that you expected during your stay. Our staff prides themselves on their knowledge of the surrounding areas and we are glad that you received some great recommendations for dinner locations.

You also mentioned our great location, as we are just steps away from all the French Quarter action while still providing a quiet and relaxing getaway in the residential section of the Quarter. This is our number one selling feature for all of our French Quarter Guest Houses properties!

We are extremely sorry to hear that your room was not up to the standards of excellence that we strive to pride. Cleanliness is one of our strengths, as highlighted in multiple reviews by other guests at the Inn on St Peter. The Inn on St Peter is newly renovated, as are our other French Quarter Guest House properties, and provides top notch amenities to our guests during their stay.

Should you provide us with the opportunity, we would love to make it up to you with a future stay at any of our four French Quarter Guest House properties. We are extremely confident that your experience would be nothing short of your expectations for your stay.

Agree with all the recent reviews. Driving across country, we decided to stay near the French Quarter instead of one of the chain motels near the interstate. So glad we stayed here. Very nice, newly remodeled room, but the charm and location takes the cake. GHreat value. Parking, though 6 blocks away for a garage with 24 hour security, was not a problem, as our luggage was held after chekout for a few hours up at the office while we visited Bourbon Street again and got our car. We had checked in late enough that the parking garage cost was only $5 overnight.

We really enjoyed our stay and recommend it if you are looking for a hotel room with lots of space and located within a few blocks of Bourbon Street. The hard wood floors were beautiful and the original brick and architectural accents charming.
