The location in the heart of the French Quarter was great. Close enough to everything, but quiet at night. The street felt reasonably safe after dark. The room furnishings and carpet were on the shabby side (French shabby chic?), but the bathroom was renovated, modern and very clean. The small pool was enough to be refreshing after a hot day of walking around. Breakfast included hot coffee, fresh bagels and muffins, yogurt, hard boiled eggs and some fresh fruit. We enjoyed eating in the courtyard and we could hear the water fountain at night. Even though our room overlooked the pool, we didn't experience much noise from other guests. And since we weren't in the infamous building #5, we were not disturbed by the "original residents"...;-)

Other guests were a mix of families and couples (straight and LGBT), American and European.

Hotel has free wi-fi, but I never had a signal in the room for more than a few minutes.

If you do make a reservation and there are more than 2 people in the room, check with the hotel about fees for additional people. On checkout day we received an unexpected hotel bill for an "additional guest". The hotel waived the charge without any fuss or unpleasantries, but they did say that the Expedia quote was for 2 people, and to check the fine print. I have gone over my confirmations and found no such reference, but be aware of this when placing your reservation.

We stayed at the Hotel Provincial for the first time a few years ago. That time we booked a regular room and requested a river view. They bumped us up to a suite or mini-suite at no extra charge. The suite was huge. This was pre-renovation and, at the time I was a little disappointed in the bathroom - it just seemed very outdated. However, I believe that extensive renovations were done to all of the rooms last year, probably to fix this kind of thing.

Our second stay was last week and we just booked a suite this time, since the price was reasonable and they had offered a 10% returning customer discount. It was beautiful! It's one of the best views of the quarter and the river that one can find. The room was near the back of the property and was on the top floor - there are two suites side by side on that floor. It's a garret room that consists of a living room, bedroom, bathroom and 2 large closets. It was nicely furnished with antique accent pieces. The next time we go there I am going to specifically request this room.

The location is great. The staff is friendly, the multiple courtyards and pool on the property are lovely. I highly recommend Hotel Provincial.

From our very first staff encounter, we knew we would have a wonderful stay. Gracious and helpful staff were there every step of the way. The room was just right for us - touches of history but modern day amenities. I would give the beds a grade of B, but the linens were very nice. Our room was on the first floor opening out onto the courtyard. The good news is that the 10:00 p.m. quiet time was observed completely. The bad news is that the courtyard was mainly used for smoking, so I didn't hang out there. The pool is beautiful. We got to listen to an impromptu concert from the courtyard one evening. Great location - easy three blocks to Jackson Square, and another block further to French Market and Cafe du Monde. It's very close to the Riverfront streetcar line, which takes you down to Canal - unfortunately we learned the hard way that it only runs every 45 minutes in the morning time. It's a 15 minute walk to Canal, which wasn't bad. Also very close to the newest Winks Bakery location with yummy buttermilk drops! The free WiFi was very spotty. We would definitely stay there again.

This is a charming hotel that's conveniently located within walking distance of everything in the French Quarter and all the great music clubs on Frenchmen Street. It is also safe and quiet (two blocks off Bourbon Street, so no loud drunks out carousing).

Based on the pictures from the website , I was expecting a beautiful hotel. Instead I received a room that left me disappointed. The room was very small and did not look very clean. The bathroom door did not close completely, the shower had a huge crack that was just hastily patched over and painted over, and the iron was broken. Although I knew the hotel was an older hotel, I expected nicer amenities. In addition to this, the clerk waited until after I checked in to notify me that the water would be out from 11-3 the next morning. I originally intended to stay two nights but found myself checking out the next day and checking into another hotel. I recommend checking out other hotels in the French quarters.

Couldn't pick a better place to stay when in New Orleans. The hotel is located within walking distance of most tourist spots, yet feels like you are in a hidden villa off the beaten path. There was no noise or traffic, just peaceful serenity. The pools and courtyard were just fabulous, and gave it the Southern feel.
The drinks and service at the hotel bar, The Ice House Bar, are top notch! James, the bartender, was wonderful! He spent time getting to know the guests and was always helpful with suggestions for dinner or things to do. His Bloody Mary was the best I have ever had! We hope to have many happy returns to Hotel Provincial and James at the Ice House Bar.

Room Tip: Ask for a courtyard or pool view- it's worth it!

Located in the French Quarter with easy walking access to Jackson Square, Bourbon Street and Frenchman Street. Loved the atmosphere and quaint charm of this Hotel. Staff were excellent! Rooms were clean with a NOLA charm (beds were amazing!!!)
Be sure to visit James in the Ice Bar. Great bartender! We were a small group of 6 girls and it was the perfect place to stay. The outside courtyard was small and felt like home.
Will stay again!
