“A comfortable hotel with a pool”
Reviewed May 25, 2013

On arrival we had not been allocated the room we had requested overlooking the pool or the courtyard. When I complained we were offered one on first floor overlooking courtyard but did not want it as it was very dark as there are no windows just double doors with a blind. Our room in building 5 across the car park was larger and brighter with partial view of the Mississippi and fairly quiet at night . Small pool with very cold water! Pool towels provided. Lovely smell of jasmine and nice vegetation. Continental breakfast ok. Ideal location in the French Quarter near lots of restaurants in Decatur Street and within easy walk of Jackson Square.
The only negative point was the lack of friendliness by the staff: efficient but not welcoming except Sherlane. The general manager is aware of this and has promised to address the problem.

Room Tip: Be aware that rooms overlooking pool or courtyard have no windows.

the hotel is very nice and in a quiet location but easy and close access to all of the French Quarter. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We arrived early but they were able to accommodate us with one of the 3 rooms we needed so we were able to leave our luggage. The courtyard was a great place to have breakfast, which was included, and then drinks later in the day. The breakfast was your typical continental style breakfast. The rooms were adequate in size and the bathrooms had a place to put your toiletries. I would recommend it to friends and the the value of the hotel for the price was very good.

Stayed at Hotel Provincial for 5 nights this May. The location cannot be beat. It is in a quiet section of the French Quarter but close to everything. We were on the second floor overlooking the pool. The room has period furniture that gives you a real New Orleans feel. The bathroom is not modern and the rooms are clean but not georgeous. If you need modern updated rooms, this is not the place for you. Bring your own shampoo and soap because theirs is just average at best if that bothers you. The continental breakfast was excellent and they start serving coffee at 6am, a plus for those of us who want to get going early. The courtyard is very nice and it's ok to have a room opening up to it because people are quiet and leave early not to disturb.

We booked this hotel for JazzFest 2013. When we first arrived we were disappointed because our room did not look like the nice picture on the website. BUT...the hotel turned out to be perfect for us. Although the furniture in the room was old, everything worked perfectly. Plenty of space in the bathroom (with plenty of hot water), adequate space in the room, good maid service, very responsive hotel staff. We stayed in bldg 5 in which is at the back of the property. It was quiet and we were so glad we hadn't booked a hotel closer to Bourbon St. This location is excellent; Quiet but within walking distance to Jackson Square and Frenchman St. The free breakfast buffet is just OK, but the bar-tender is a treasure. Kudos to the friendly and helpful staff.

Room Tip: We liked Bldg 5 away from the pool and the front office.

This hotel is in a good location, away from the noisy and intoxicated Bourbon Street / Canal Street area but close to the French Markets and Frenchmen Street with its jazz clubs and quieter atmosphere. We stayed on the 2nd floor but not overlooking the courtyard. The room was a good size, clean, with very comfortable beds, air conditioning and a fan, antique furniture, and a complimentary continental breakfast. The staff were very helpful and polite and the hotel was neat, very clean and well maintained with an excellent (on of the best I've had) free high speed Wi-Fi.

It is a bit expensive for the size and amenities but we were there during the Jazz festival (we did not know this till we got there!) and the rates may be cheaper at other times.

However, there are several drawbacks which detracted from the experience (and which may help other travellers). There is no lift which impacts older guests (us) although staff assisted us by carrying our bags. There is no refrigerator (minibar) in the room and while ice was available this had to be collected from another part of the hotel. Similarly there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room, and an early morning cuppa in bed meant a long trip to the breakfast room. Breakfast only started at 8:00 am, too late for those of us who were going on tours or had to be at the airport. Unfortunately, the room was a bit stuffy but while the casement windows had originally been designed to open, layers of paint meant they were stuck tight and no fresh air was available without leaving the door propped open. And perhaps the most annoying thing was the lack of readily available hot water. You got up in the morning and turned the tap on and went back to bed. After 10 mins the hot water arrived from whatever long distance away the water heater was located. However, if you made the mistake and left taking the second shower more than about 15 mins, the water had cooled in the pipes so the 10 min wait was repeated. This really is not good enough. Perhaps when booking one should specify a room near the water heater.

A friend had been raving about this hotel for several years and I was thinking it might be time to
upgrade from the funky Richelieu down the street. We got one of the last rooms available during Jazzfest, which turned out to be a garret with views of the river on one side and the Marigny on the other. There were beams, which seemed relatively real, a super-comfortable bed, and a very nice bathroom which seemed recently renovated. Lots of armoires and antiquish furniture - very like a garret in Paris. There were two nice pools (supposedly three, but I never found the third and it was a little chilly for swimming in any case) a pretty courtyard for hanging out or having
breakfast, a not very cozy bar and an okay continental breakfast (if you eat low-carb, your choice is hard cooked eggs and margarine). Parking is $25 and valet, but your car is in the courtyard, which is an appealing idea. Coop's is right around the corner - duck taco is the thing to get - and a good intro to NOLA. Good place for young kids - I plan to bring a granddaughter
next year. A fair number of foreign tourists, which makes things more interesting.
I would happily stay again at this pleasant place with its good sense of history and very comfortable, roomy accomodations.

Room Tip: from what I gathered from other guests, they're all good rooms - everyone seemed happy with thei...

Spent 3 nights at this hotel in April together with another English couple who have visited New Orleans several times before. We all agreed the location was perfect - near all the action but not so noisy as to affect sleep. The hotel has real personality with attractive courtyards to sit in and plan your activities or recover with a drink from the bar. The breakfast was more than adequate to fire up your day but in keeping with the rest of the city chicory is added to the coffee, which is an acquired taste! The rooms were spacious and clean. Reception were really helpful and if you are lucky enough to get Sherlane make good use of her. She sorted out tours for us, advised about restaurants, provided us with lots of discount vouchers and was altogether a delightful person. Secure parking at a very reasonable price was another bonus.
