We recently were in N.O. ...Oct 9-14th. We decided to stay at the Omni, based on platinum amex fine hotel program and trip advisor review. (Our previous stay was at the Windsor Court. The W.C. is a lovely hotel, albeit a bit stuffy, and not a great location). Here's my take. P.S> My husband and I are very well travelled and expect a certain standard from a 4-star and a 5-star property.

Pros:
1. Location, location, and location...need I say more. The Omni is well-situated in the French Quarter. It is an easy, safe short-block from Bourbon and steps from lovely Rue Royal.

2. Lovely pool on 7th floor with an amazing view of the River and the Vieux Carre.

3. For the most part, great staff...concierge, doorman, bellman.

4. Rooms are clean but small..oh well..more later.

Cons:
!. Upon check-in, our front staff clerk did not even make eye contact to let us know she had acknowledged us. Certainly, not a great first impression.

2. There was no upgrade possible, which I understood, as there seemed to be a large wedding at the hotel. However, as an Omni Select Guest and Platinum Amex client, MS. P assigned us right above the early morning renovation of the Rib Room. Needless to say, after our one morning of Sleeping in (Sunday), we were woken up(Mon, Tues Weds)just after 7:00 AM by the air hammers. (Certainly not one should be expecting at $300.00 per night)

3. Also, there was a new phone system installed in the property, rendering our room (#220) the "new security station call centre". Well, if the air hammers didn't rouse us, the 3 or 4 phone calls each morning by 8:00 AM certainly did. On behalf of the management, there was some good and some bad. I phoned on Monday morning to the front desk to ask for a room change....she said she would phone me back or leave a message. 4:30 PM guess what???!!! No message. I phoned again...management would look into it. It was late when we returned and nothing happened. However, when we were woken up by numerous phone calls on Tues...my patience wore out...we were compted one night hotel stay and given the option of moving to a Petit Suite on a different floor. Finally, some one was listening.

In conclusion, would I stay here again? If they upgrade their front staff to 4-star property grade, and were on top of their room assignments and call- return ..Only the MAYBE???!!!....until then, check out the Ritz Carlton or J.W. Marriott. Enjoy the BIG EASY :)

great stay @ the royal orleans. fantastic pool deck - do wish it would remain open past 10 p.m - free upgrade to balcony room with select guest card (free on omni web site). "rib room" is being renovated, but plenty of food nearby(obviously). walking distance to everything. great service from staff. definite return stay when back in new orleans.

We just stayed there this past labor day and thought everything o.k except for the pool. Be aware they close the pool, bar,and the topside scenic view down at 10 pm. Hard to believe for
New Orleans.

Upon arrival at this hotel the first thing you notice is the friendliness of the bellboys, unfortunately we cannot say the same about the reception staff who seemed stuck up. The room was small but lovely decorated and clean. Breakfast was very good and the rooftop pool made this hotel stand out from the rest. Excellant location to Bourbon Street and all other attractions. If we went to New Orleans again we would certainly stay here.

We stayed at the Omni Royal Orleans several nights in August. For the past four summers, we have chosen the Omni, though we did stay one night this year in a small boutique hotel (couldn't compare!). Even though the hotel was undergoing a major renovation and the sound of air guns greeted us at check-in, the staff couldn't have been nice or more professional. The location is perfect, and the rooftop pool/bar is a great place to look over the city. The only thing we wish was that the rooms were larger; ours was a king/balcony, but even with the summer rates it seemed a bit high for its size (but, yes, I know you pay for location, location, location!). Still, having a balcony is great...the sounds of street musicians and "people watching" add to the ambience of New Orleans. We recommend the Omni to anyone who wants a four-star hotel with all the amenities in a great location.
