“Easy and Comfortable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2013 via mobile

Visited this hotel over the Thanksgiving weekend and had a really great experience. Arrived quite late in the evening, the front desk staff where exceptionally quick, friendly also providing late night hot chocolate, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. The hotel it feels like I traveled back in to the Renaissance with a stunning lobby and entrance. The room was comfortable with modern fixtures, king sized bed, stocked mini bar, 42" LCD and excellent heated bathroom. The hotel is located in the CBD only a short walk (2 Blocks) from Canal Street and the French Quarter and easy access to the Trolly down to the Garden District.

Highly Recommended!

Seemed like a good choice 'till we got there - lobby was freezing cold - rooms were freezing cold and heating system was noisy beyond belief - after 3 room changes we got one that was decent, not over the top but acceptable for $199 per nite. This place needs a serious rework, top to bottom. Surprised to see it as #6 of 150 hotels in NO.

A great hotel if you like vintage alternatives to chrome and glass monstrosities. Lovely appointments in a hotel that's about 6-8 blocks from the French Quarter. Wonderful restaurant in Crystal Room. Excellent service. No coffee maker in room; free coffee in lobby.

Suddenly we found ourselves headed to NOLA for an overnight so one of our sons could attend a party for a magazine kickoff. I made the selection based upon location and prices of similar spots in the area. What a pleasant surprise! Booking on a site, they had not received our reservation yet and comped us 2 drinks from the lobby bar. With a wedding party taking over the bar and ballroom, we scurried up to a beautifully appointed room. Everything was first class there! Painted ceiling, large HD TV, sumptuous bed, and quiet!

The rooftop is something to visit and see the NOLA skyline, too.

At 10 pm the carts roll out in the lobby and PB&Js are made by you with assorted jellies. I saw several guests and families in their loaner terry cloth robes indulging together. Needless to say, we will be back!

Room Tip: Consult with the front desk as to the level of quiet you would like. They will accommodate for you...

Walking around New Orleans a month ago, I was scouting for a hotel that would be suitable for a family trip. I wanted a hotel that was a taste of New Orleans, in a convenient location, and NOT in the French Quarter. This hotel meets fully meets these requirements. My kids had never stayed in a hotel that looked anything like this. They were amazed with how fancy everything looked. The rooms were nice, and the beds were comfortable. Two features stood out for my family: the rooftop pool and hot tub, and the 10pm PB&J sandwiches and hot chocolate in the lobby. I am sure that will be my youngest's lasting impression of the hotel.

Location is great. We walked to the WW II museum, Jackson Square park, and the New Orleans Arena. 20 minutes or less, and all through safe areas.

Hotel staff were excellent.

Stayed at Le Pavillon in September 2013 with friends. Beautiful olde worlde hotel. Very clean. Lovely staff very efficient. Be sure to sample the peanut & jelly sandwiches served every night from around 10pm - there's a lovely story behind this tradition. Roof top pool is also worth a visit with lovely views of New Orleans. French Quarter & of course Bourbon Street are close enough to walk or catch a tram. Would like to return some day!

We recently stayed at Le Pavillon for one week on vacation. Here is a breakdown of our thoughts.

Rooms:
Our room was on the 9th floor away from the elevator. We were given a dreadful view of a parking lot and derelict buildings. But we didn't plan on looking out our window much. Our room was clean and the beds were nice. The room itself smelled horribly of mildew. After asking the cleaning staff to maybe spray or disinfect the smell remained. My partner chalked it up to "everything in NOLA smells like mold". So we lived with it. The bathroom was really run down, the marble counter top was broken, the toilet ran all night, the shower head dripped slowly, the tub plug didn't work, the shower curtain with tassels was dusty and the corners were looking caked with dirt that's just so old you just can't get it out. One of the worst things was finding a bottle of tub cleaner between the shower curtain and plastic curtain and after three consecutive days of having our room cleaned it was never noticed. It made me wonder how well they washed the tubs if they never even moved the shower curtains. Renos of the bathrooms seem in desperate need. The furnishings and carpet seemed fine. We had a doorway that attached to another room. It was paper thin. We could hear every conversation, even low talking, and what was being said on the television. Two different sets of guests stayed their during our stay and it was exactly the same. If you get an attached room, really insist on being moved.
Tip: The mini-bars are censored so if you move anything in the fridge you are automatically charged. Don't they know what a headache this is. I've experienced this at other hotels too. The sensors don't work that well. It makes you want to not even touch the bar. We had charges removed twice for things we did not drink. But the front desk was cooperative about this but it still wastes MY time.

Lobby
The lobby is elegant and beautiful. So bright and ornate. The furnishing is very thread barren but I think that just adds to the character. This is where the famous PBJ bar is set up each night - 10-11pm. I loved just sitting down in the lobby reading or using my computer (free WIFI at LP too - bonus!) at any time of the day.

Pool Area
It's very small. Only about 10 lounger chairs. Some small round tables and 2-3 Cabanas that were always booked. It was a little too cold when we were there to use this much.

Lounge
The lounge is a small but ornate space. We found it difficult to find seating on a few nights but most people only seemed to be staying for one or two so we waited. If there is a wedding going on it's hard to get in here. Service was quick and attentive but each night we seemed to be charged differently for the same drinks. When talked to the server about this after the 3rd night she helped rectify it, no problem.

Restaurant - Crystal Room
This is a really large ornate space with a nice fireplace. We felt like we were the only one's in there when there were only about 5 tables. The service here was very good and attentive. It does close for weddings.

Food
We didn't eat much here because there are so many nice restaurants in the CBD area, not far from here.

Something I did like and thought was a nice touch, especially for a business traveler was the nightly 'all you can eat' special ($19.99) in the Crystal Room restaurant. It always featured something comforting or homey. We enjoyed the 'pot roast night' after a long day of travel. Other night they offered shrimp creole, another night roast ham dinner. I believe all entrees on this special also come with green salad and fresh buns.

From room service we had a cheese/meat platter. Other than the cheese slices (not real cheese) it was mediocre.

On our last morning we went to the $19.99 breakfast buffet set up in the restaurant. I was trying to decide between the buffet and the al a carte menu when our server told us that absolutely everything on the breakfast menu, except eggs benedict was on the buffet. I didn't enjoy the buffet much. It was 10:30am so half of the trays were empty, the bacon burned, ham was dried up, french toast was hard, the syrup was almost gone, baked goods picked over. Really not worth the $20. But I did make up for it by having a beautiful perfectly cooked omelet at the omelet station and about 3 delicious biscuits. After complaining about the bacon the server brought me out a plate of nicely cooked bacon so I guess in the end I made out ok. I however, would probably not recommend this buffet unless quantity, not quality, is your main focus (like filling up teen boys!)

Service
The service here is excellent. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. The front desk was always a big help. Our bags were delivered to our room promptly. Getting a cab was always easy. The wait staff were amazing. As an example, one server in the lounge heard me asking another patron where they got a skull beer mug. All they knew was on Bourbon. She went some where, came back and told me where to get and even the address! My only single complaint on service would the concierge desk. One particular lady was amazing and super southern friendly but another man was friendly but not so helpful by just handing us brochures. He didn't make any calls for us or try to found out more about the tour we wanted. Just gave us a brochure.

I would stay here again if the price was right. On the Saturday night we paid $369. It is totally not worth that price. The rest of the week was about $170/night - much more in line with what I expected to pay for that caliber of hotel.

Room Tip: don't get an attached room. Ask for a bay window.
