“Great boutique hotel, good location”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

One note, my wife was traveling for work, so we didn't pay for it, looked expensive. Very nice room' comfortable and clean. Great location two blocks from the french quarter. The lobby and bar looked really cool, it seemed like something was always going on. They had a voodoo exhibit one night.. The hotel exudes a young "hip" vibe, but it's not too cheesy. Recommended

We really liked the concept of this hotel - environmentally, culturally and aesthetically sensitive. It's a conversion of the original 'world trade centre' - hence the name, which the building has had for decades of its previous life - and the design is excellent. We stayed in a very large twin room (with window); the beds were extremely comfortable, though we would have appreciated reading lights. The cocktails in the bar are extraordinary, inventive and delicious. For a hotel of this class we didn't think it was overpriced. Location gives easy access to all the trolley car lines and the French Quarter.

We found this hotel through trip advisor and it was better than I expected. We booked a Queen and upgraded to a King upon arrival that overlooked a Zen Garden. The room was huge. The bedding was very comfy, thick towels and I never had to ask for more which is not always true when you travel..always an abundant of towels, robes and bath amenities at IH. This historic building probably has older plumbing so wait a few minutes for the water to get hot but just run your water in advance. I never had any issues with noise (as some comments suggested) but we were on the inner hotel room wall. The staff were extremely helpful (thanks Jeremy) with directions, shopping, restaurant recommendation. We loved the bar LOA. I love researching restaurants and hotels prior to vacationing - easy to do through trip advisor - and I am rarely disappointed. I noticed this bar had rave reviews. Some call the bartender Alan Walter a Mixologist some call him a Alchemist all agree he is an artist at work behind the bar. His art has been recognized and featured in many magazines including Southern Living (Google him). So after reading about this Bar I stopped in. The bar was full of fresh herbs of all kinds, many unique bottles containing his special blend of syrups, juices and other mixes. The atmosphere of the bar is very inviting and romantic. It was a unique experience to watch the bartenders at work and every evening before dinner we always had one drink at LOA. I thought this hotel would be so far off the beaten path it would be unsafe to walk home at night from the Quarter but that was not true. It is perfectly situation to the Quarter, Canal, and the Trolley so we could easily commute to the Quarter or Garden District. It is just 2 block off of Canal. Loved the Lobby and the fact it is non smoking was nice... in fact the scent of this hotel is wonderful and inviting. Great artwork and furnishings. I will be back. Use the airport shuttle to commute. It is in the baggage claim area. Do not book online. It is lower cost to book in person $38 round trip per person and $40 online. They arrived to take us back to the airport within 2 minutes of the estimated time. I will use the shuttle again - cab fare is about 45 per person. Easy commute to the hotel via the shuttle. IH doorman was friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Get the King 3rd floor

My wife and I enjoyed a great 5-night stay at International House, a quiet oasis in a rockin' city. By day, we explored every nook and cranny of NO; by night, we returned to a peaceful home base whose staff made us feel right at home. Even the decor is thoughtfully set to calm sensory overload, And the house restaurant, Rambla, provided truly excellent cuisine. There was nothing not to like about this place!

Overall it is a very nice hotel: good location, beautiful lobby, clean rooms. But some of the standard things that you would typically see in a 4-star hotel were missing, like a hair dryer, or some supplies in the bathroom beyond a shampoo and a hair conditioner. I stayed in a small room with expossed brick walls and no windows, and I paid close to $400. Whereas the price could be high do to the Jazz Fest week, I still don't beleive the hotel deserves the 4-star rating. The location is perfect: just 5 minutes away from the center of New Orleans and all the action, but on a quite block. Also, I would expect a breakfast to be included in that hight price, but I couldn't even use their downstairs restaurant in the morning, as a large group of people reserved the whole space for the whole duriation of their stay there (due to some conference). The bathroom tub wasn't clean thoroughly - there were some hairs there. Other than that no complaints. The stuff was friendly

We found the option of one of the top-floor rooms, windowless, to be one of the greatest finds in New Orleans. We had no intention of spending much time in the room, so the lack of natural window light didn't matter. The price was right! And the music played in the lobby--Trombone Shorty at one point--is the grooviest. Great people: answered all questions and helped with figuring out how to park at night legally and with no fines. Finally, the kid left her t-shirt and shorts, remembered and called the hotel late the night we checked out, and they got them to the front desk and Jeremy made sure they would be held for her in a bag until they could be picked up. The staff is gracious and helpful, even though we know our way around the city. No condescending front-desk staff. Just nice people.
