I think it was the owner behind the counter when I arrived at Cafe Envie early in the morning after a bad night thanks to the incompetent and unfriendly staff at the St. James Hotel. I have a wheat allergy, and she happily suggested several options for breakfast. I decided on an omelet, and it was delicious, served with a generous portion of grapes instead of the bread it would normally come with. The atmosphere is wonderful. It's a somewhat dilapidated building, but the interior is clean and charming, and the sidewalk seating under the canopy was a wonderful place to watch as locals began to go about their day. It was a nice glimpse of the real New Orleans, and I'll be sure to go back next time I'm in town.
