“A fantastic Mardi gras 2013 at House og the Rising Sun BnB”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

My wife and I had the opportunity to visit New Orleans during the Mardi gras period and stayed at the House of the Rising Sun B & B. This was a long planned trip and we did the booking over a year ago to make sure we could get a room. This is my second stay at House of Rising Sun; the first one was back in 2002. Algiers Point is located on the other side of the Mississippi River from Canal Street and it is a perfect place to stay when you are in NOLA. A quite area and at the same time a very short walk and a ferry trip, and you are in the heart of New Orleans. You can easily walk to Frenchman street where lots of the music venues are located. The ferry is free and goes twice an hour. During Mardi gras this was very convenient since driving around in NOLA with all the parades is not something you want to do.

The room we got was charming and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfasts were great and there is also Wi-Fi available. Having a cup of coffee or a beer and relax in the backyard is also very nice. The hospitality are just fantastic here, you really get a relaxed good feeling being here and Kevin and Wendy are always ready to help if you having questions about NOLA and where to go and so on.

I am a guitar player and I love to play when I am on vacation so I asked Kevin if he knew somewhere that I could rent a guitar during my stay. Guess what; when I opened the door to my room there was a guitar and the Offbeat magazine ready on the bed. That is fantastic.

On Fat Tuesday we were invited to join in on Kevin and Wendy’s private Mardi gras party, started with champagne breakfast at 06AM. Thanks to Kevin & Wendy for giving us the opportunity to experience the real Mardi gras feeling parading around in costumes and partying all day long.

I would highly recommend a stay at the House of the Rising Sun.
I would not consider staying any other places when I am visiting NOLA; my next visit is probably going to be during the Jazz festival in 2015 I hope.

Many thanks for the wonderful review and Mardi Gras Day was very special this year as it fell on my birthday and you made it here! Glad you could experience "our" Mardi Gras and not what you see on some TV channels. There is more to Mardi Gras than getting hammered on Bourbon Street, as you found out. We look forward to seeing you again in 2015 for Jazz Fest. Don't forget to book early :-) In the meantime, please send all your friends from Norway, especially the Blues fans!!

My wife and I had the opportunity to visit New Orleans recently and stayed at the House of the Rising Sun B & B. What an outstanding experience. We were greeted by Kevin and his faithful side kick Boudin. After coffee and conversation, Kevin showed us the property. What a charming, warm home. The room and bed were very comfortable. The breakfasts were outstanding. In addition, the neighborhood was quiet and filled with history (as well as some excellent restaurants and an English style pub with an great beer selection). Another plus is the free ferry that departs every thirty minutes to and from the French Quarter. We could not have asked for more. I would highly recommend a stay at the House of the Rising Sun. I know when we go back we will be staying with Kevin and Boudin again.

Many thanks for your wonderful review! "Boudin the Wonder Dog" and I really enjoyed your company and hopefully, on your next visit, you will meet the wife if she is in town. Hope the snow was not too deep when you returned home and glad you decided to stay the extra night to try and avoid it. Had a fun night at the Crown & Anchor English Pub with you!! Look forward to having you as guests again sometime soon.

As American Football fans from the UK, its a rare opportunity to experience being in a Superbowl City, but as an avid Saints fan I couldn't miss the chance to see how the 'Who Dat Nation' put on a party and we weren't disappointed. The B&B was the perfect place to stay, very short and easy journey in to the city/French Quarter using the ferry which is free and runs regularly. Great places to eat, and it was good to find the local English pub on our first night there! I don't think i've ever been to a city where everyone was so happy to have us. Thank you Kevin and his side kick Boudin (he almost came home with me in my suitcase). We were made to feel welcome and at home from the instant we stepped in through the door. Wonderful food, and great advice on where to, Kevin's knowledge of the area, music, history and places to eat/drink is second to none. Thank you for making my first trip to New Orleans a memorable one, I've made some great friends in a short space of time, and I'm already planning my return trip!

Many thanks for your wonderful review!! Yes, New Orleans can certainly throw a party!!! By the amount of Saints shirts and caps out that Superbowl weekend, you would have thought we won or at least qualified. We look forward to your return, hopefully to see the Saints play.

Making a reservation at the"House of the Rising Sun B&B"was disconcerting at first, not knowing what to expect, what with the song and all.But all apprehension was alleviated within the 1st 10minutes of arrival!A brightly colored,well-kept" shotgun double"was very welcoming.Kevin welcomed us in,showed us to our room and gave us the keys to the front door and bedroom door. Then he showed us our bathroom and invited us into the kitchen, where we were invited to have an Abita Amber Ale with our host and his constant companion"Boudin",a spunky puggle, who really likes treats from the breakfast table. At the rear of the house is a comfortable, covered patio with 2 small ponds with smaller and larger koi.Very relaxing place for conversation with Kevin and some of the other houseguests, who happened to be from Kevins homeland,England. There is a wonderful little English Pub a block and a half away, the Dry Dock Cafe, for great lunches and dinners, another block away and the FREE ferry to the foot of the French Quarter yet 1 more block away!Point Algiers is a great little community just across the "Big Muddy"from the hustle&bustle of the Big Easy.An easy walking tour can illuminate just how bright this neighborhood can shine! It is a great base to start and end busy, walking days.It was really nice to feel so comfortable in the B&B,like an old sweatshirt! Thanks so much Kevin,we had an exceptional time in" Nawlins" and we will definitely be back, hopefully, for a few Mardi Gras Parades!Plus we still have to meet Wendy,we hope she is feeling better! Til then, take care,Scott&Jeanne P.S. We have been unsuccessfully trying to re-create your fantastic breakfast, the meal that gave us the energy to see all that we did!Again,Thank You!

Room Tip: 2 of the 3 bedrooms have a bathroom en suite, the 3rd has a private bath down the hall.My girlfriend...

We stayed at this B&B January 10th-13th 2013 and found it very delightful. This B&B is located in Algier's Point and we found this to be a very safe neighborhood with some great places to have a drink or a meal. Breakfast was tasty. Kevin and Wendy are wonderful hosts. They have a family member named (Boudin) this dog was very friendly and made me miss my dogs from home. By the way, Kevin makes wonderful tasting tea. Thank you Kevin, Wendy and Boudin for making our first trip to New Orleans a great one! Sincerely, Terri & Craig

The opportunity to experience New Orleans for both the Superbowl and Mardi Gras parades was too good to resist and House of the Rising Sun was the ideal base to explore this fantastic city!

Kevin (along with sidekick Boudin) is a great host; knowledgable about the history of the area & the local music scene with plentiful breakfasts to start each day and comfy beds to recover from the hours of walking... The B&B is located in Algiers which is only a short ferry ride from the French Quarter but without the grief of crowded streets and noisy neighbours! The ferry leaves every half an hour and runs from 6 till midnight so there are no restrictions on experiencing all the New Orleans has to offer!

There are great places to eat within a few blocks of the B&B - Vine & Dine and Dry Dock Cafe serve great food with a real local flavour.

Kevin - thanks for a fantastic stay! Let us know when you've run out of British produce and we'll happliy arrange another trip to top up supplies - can't wait to be back and explore the inside of the Superdome!

Many thanks for the wonderful review and "Hobbes" looks stunning in his Saints scarf! Thank you for displaying the photos on our page, too. They are a great addition. It was a shame the Saints never made the Superbowl but the city sure gave a great party!! Hope to see you both some time soon.

This bed&breakfast is located in Algier's Point, across the Mississippi River: you park your car for free just in front of the main door, you walk three blocks to the free ferry running from 6am to midnight, and you are at the very beginning of the French quarter!
The bedroom we were given is chinese style, quiet, large, comfortable (superb mattress), with private bathroom across the guests' sitting room (not so convenient nightime).
Healthy breakfast, consisting in a tasteful fruit salad with cereals and local cakes (no eggs and bacon, despite Kevin's nationality!)
Do not miss a walking tour of Algier's Point: ask Kevin and/or visit the specific website.

Room Tip: Due to the location all rooms are quiet; inf you need it, ask for an ensuite.
