I had a wonderful stay in New Orleans at the House of the Rising Sun. Kevin was an amazing host, full of local knowledge, music advice and funny stories. The house is lovely- welcoming, clean and in a great non-touristy spot.
I"ve never done a review on tripadvsior before but felt compelled to, having had such a great stay here. For sure, stay here!!! I am definitely returning one day soon...

My wife and I stayed at The House of the Rising Sun for five nights in october. Kevin and Wendy were great hosts. The house and area are peaceful. Our room was comfortable and nicely decorated and the bathroom was clean. Another reviewer mentioned the chats around the breakfast table in the morning, and I must say that we enjoyed these also. Kevin is great for tips on where to go and what to see (great record shop in Decatur St being one, although my wife may disagree). The (free) ferry is a 5 minute walk past some lovely houses in Algiers Point, and if you time it right you can be in the French Quarter in 15 minutes. We caught a cab back one night after a win in the casino, and it cost us $20. We'd reccomend it to anyone.

Many thanks for the wonderful review. Even though you are an Arsenal supporter we really enjoyed your company :-) Wish I had told you about the Louisiana Music Factory at the beginning of your stay. I could have been a few more CDs better off :-) The music tour you did of the States is one of the reasons we get so many Blues, 60's R&B and Jazz fans staying here. Hope we see you on another "trip of a lifetime" in the not too distant future.

My husband and I recently stayed here for about a week and we really enjoyed it. The house is clean and comfortable, and includes a common room tastefully filled with books and memorabilia of the region. Kevin was very friendly and full of interesting stories at breakfast. The location was great for us, since it was just a short (and free!) ferry ride from the Quarter. There's even a cozy English pub just down the street. We'll definitely return the next time we are in New Orleans.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for five days at the end of the September. We enjoyed our stay and definitely would come back. We liked hanging out with Boudin, the dog, and Algiers is a really cool town.

Pros: Short distance from the Quarter, quiet neighborhood, felt safe, good breakfast, and friendly hosts.

Cons: $50 cab ride from the airport ( I would suggest taking the cab from the airport into town and taking ferry to Algiers to save money), ferry service ends at midnight, and there really isn't anywhere to buy snacks or drinks except one convenience store in Algiers.

Room Tip: Our room (which was the room right off of the kitchen) was a little hot.

"Shrimp"? Many thanks for the great review and we are pleased you are thinking of coming back to see us! Can't wait! As for not being able to find "snacks"....within three blocks we have a convenience store, a coffee shop, a cupcake shop, a pizza place, a wine bar/bistro, a bar/restaurant and an English pub, all of which have snacks. There is also another convenience store that sells cooked Chinese lunches as well as snacks, a seafood store (great cooked shrimp, crabs and crawfish, and snacks), and another convenience store, all within six short blocks. Then, of course, there is the French Quarter just across the river with some of the best restaurants in the world and lots of snacks. When you come back we'll explain where they all are. Wish you had asked. And if all else fails, we have snack bars and individually wrapped cheeses at the breakfast table you could have taken and snacked on.

My husband & I thoroughly enjoyed our five night stay with Kevin, Wendy, and Boudin. Their home is warm and inviting. We enjoyed our fresh fruit breakfasts & especially enjoyed the talk around the breakfast table each morning. Our bed was so "comfy" at night after each long day exploring NOLA. We loved New Orleans and The House of the Rising Sun B&B.

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend. It was fabulous. Great house, great people. Wendy and Kevin are so hospitable and Boudin, their dog, is awesome. The neighborhood is great. Short ferry ride to the Quarter. The bars and restaurants in the neighborhood are great and only a short walk. There's also a proper English Pub. I would stay here again. I highly recommend it.
