“AN EXCELLENT VALUE IN NEW ORLEANS”
Reviewed March 25, 2014

We were quite happy with our stay at the Prytania Oaks Hotel rather than the Prytania Park Hotel. It is located around the corner from the Park Hotel with free parking on site. We booked through hotwire but we saw good prices on other sites. Breakfast is at the main hotel, it is a continental breakfast with cereal, yogourt , bagels & pastries, it would have been nice to have hot items but it was OK. It is two short blocks from the streetcars on Charles Street & for $3.00 per day you can ride the streetcars & buses. We never took our car out of the parking lot. We had room 161 which is ground floor facing the street, with a bench outside the room on the porch. It was a .great place to sit in the evening. The hotel is in a converted old home with 15 foot ceilings beautiful wood work and furnishings .The bedroom and the bathroom though not large were clean and comfortable. There is free Wi-Fi in the rooms. There are good restaurants in the area within walking or a trolley ride. We enjoyed a good meal at Zea Rotisserie & grill, also Trolly Stop Café is good for an inexpensive breakfast or lunch. We enjoyed using the trolley for sightseeing & getting around. For the location in the Garden District with free parking and close to trolley routes this is an excellent value.

Room Tip: Try to get a room at the front facing the street. I preferred this location to the main hotel.

This old house converted to hotel has great bones. Thick walls, real wooden doors, nicely appointed room with decor and a very nice, large bathroom. Clean, crisp white sheets and towels made this a welcome respite from our busy days and late nights. This is one of three hotels marketed together in the Garden District, along with The Prytania Hotel (main) and The Queen Anne, another lovely old home turned hotel. Only one block off parade route on St. Charles Ave, our local friends used our hotel for convenience. We loved the location and pulled down many plates of oysters and great craft brews at the Blind Pelican. Free breakfast is typical highway hotel food, but not a detraction as we were rarely up before 10am when it closed. Lovely courtyard with tables and space to collect if you were traveling with a group. The only problem was with check-in. You must go to the 'mother' hotel, The Prytania Park Hotel, which is a few blocks away. It was an inconvenience more that anything.
It was easy to get places, especially nice to have a walk to Magazine. Of course the trolley is on St Chas, but with the parades, not useful for transport.

We stayed in the green side in 268 and the bed was perfect and the shower was amazingly hot. Ladies down at the Breakfast room were very nice, breakfast was ok nothing fancy, but no eggs or meat.
The location is perfect we either took the St. Charles Trolley or the Magazine St. Bus to either downtown, French Quarter or the Garden District.
Walk one block and your ready for the Mardi Gras Parade!
The front desk at Prytania Park was very helpful with information.

Here with friends for Rock N Rock New Orleans marathon. This hotel was easily walkable from the start line (less than a mile). This place is a ideal if you are not interested in being in the midst of the Quarter. We enjoyed waking to several little places near our hotel including the Blind Pelican (lots of fun and great .25 raw oysters) and Trolley Stop Cafe for breakfast (local charm, cheap, and good). I would not say that the hotel breakfast looked all that great, but again, several neat little places within walking distance. Be aware of having to walk over with your luggage and possibly upstairs, but we did not think that was a big deal. We enjoyed not having to wait on valet and free parking in New Orleans is not easy to come by. The beds were fine, but traffic on the street ahead created a lot of noise at night. Use your smartphone's sound machine. Also, our TV did not have cable, so if that is important to you, ask about a room that might have it or don't stay. They had free internet, but I did not try it out. This is not a luxury or big box hotel, but it has clean rooms at a great price in a great location with a real New Orleans neighborhood feel.

Nice hotel. Clean and warm and cozy place. and away from all the noise. Has a nice front porch to sit outside. Excellent housekeeping service!!! Friendly staff. Good parking area, small but still works for a honda accord. Would definitely stay here again!!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 160. Beautiful room. Feels like a home

We stayed in Prytania Oaks Hotel in New Orleans for 3 nights. The location was just ideal, just a little walk away from the streetcar bringing you all over the town and right down to the French Quarter. A problem was to find the hotel in the first place, as the reception was in a complete different building. But for the last two mornings we had to take our breakfast in the other building which would not have been too bad. But taking the breakfast in some sort of a backyard at an outside temperature of 2° Celsius. We were frozen stiff and we were not amused at all.....

Room Tip: See some photos showing the breakfast buffet.

We checked in and got to room to find the keycard only worked on the gate not the room. Staff came with new cards but said they only were programed for one night stay. The next card we got for full stay didnt work. This time staff sent another set of cards that didnt work and they attempted to fix the door by changing batteries. Open door and cold room plus two wet guests equals a bad review. No super moves to make up for the inconvenience. :(
