“It is Deceptive”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

We stayed at the Club La Pension years ago and it was charming. It had large 4 poster beds and had a real New Orleans feel about it. You cannot fault the location, it is absolutely perfect. No car needed, you can walk anywhere in the quarter since the Club sits on the corner of Canal and Decatur. You can walk to the River Walk, you can take a trolley into the Garden District or a bus down to Mid-City. However, the Club has been sold and totally remodeled into a modern artsy loft like feel. It would be appropriate to find in New York or San Francisco, it fits with those cities images. The new decor does not fit so much with the old historical french quarter. Our room only had 2 small windows on the floor and no window coverings, so had to take the couch pillows and pads and put them up against these windows to get some darkness in the bedroom. Fortunately, our bedroom wall was brick so we got no street noise off of Decatur, which is quite a busy street.
They have taken out the hot tubs and they were still doing construction on parts of the Club, laundry was not available. The roof top deck was nice to sit in and read and relax.
You must eat breafast, lunch and dinner at Johnny's Po-boys, best and cheapest food near your hotel.

Stayed at this place in March and what a fantastic time, perfect location as it sits right on Decatur street next to Giovannis Italian cuisine. The room decor is funky and uplifting, I love the thought put into the design and love of the arts, Thank You design team! Alot going on, always something to see. walking distance to anywhere in the Quarter, Bourbon St. and/or Frenchman where you can find some of the best music around not to mention the food. The next morning I can suggest the CORNER BAR where you will find (in my opinion) the best BLOODIES anywhere. Check out the RED BEANS and Rice and if your an Omlet lover I think they have a seafood omlet that is not too shabby. The ladies behind the bar can work some magic with the adult beverages, Tell them I said HEY, and I will be there soon.

Room Tip: Parking is limited in the Quarter ..period and Decatur is no different, they do offer valet for a fe...

The timeshare has been totally remodeled. All amenities were removed. The hot tub, jacuzzi, and even kitchen table and chairs were removed. The lighting is dingy. The bathroom shower cannot be used without soaking the entire bathroom floor, making the bathroom hazardous. The timeshare is the worst we have stayed in anywhere in the uSA.

Room Tip: All rooms are similar.

Absolutely a surprise when we walked in. My husband and I come to New Orleans about twice a year and we decided to change up the accommodations this time. What great find at Club La Pension. Tastefully decorated unit with a whimsical theme. The staff are friendly and helpful. Our next vacation is booked and we'll be staying here again and are delighted.

Just back from spending 4 nights at Club La Pension. The bedroom was situated upstairs in our unit #404, with a pretty little living rm/partial kitchen area. This unit was extremely clean and newly decorated in a very tasteful way. Everything was in perfect working order. With the air conditioning running at night, you could hear little or no street noise. Plenty of towels, and Bath & Body Works toiletries were a very nice touch! The people in the reception area were very nice , always greated you upon arriving. I felt very safe here, as there is security in the lobby at night, and the front door can only be opened with a guest key. The location is very good. There is a Walgreen's and a small grocery store within a block's walk. Bourbon Street is approx 3 blocks. House Of Blues is literally right outside the door. Lots of little bars and restaurants scattered closeby. We enjoyed Huck Finn's ( steps away ) which serves Cajun food along with lots of other great things. ( We tried alligator for the first time...not half bad ! ) This hotel is also a close walk to Harrah's casino, the outdoor market place, The Steamboat Natchez, and all the little shops and restaurants you could ask for. Renting a car is not necessary, and very costly to park it if you do. It is a flat $33.00 rate for a cab ride for two people, approx a 20 minute ride . I would definitely recommend this hotel, and would consider again on our next visit to " The Big Easy ". Laissez les bons temps rouler !

Room Tip: No swimming pool No Restaurant

As an owner I have seen this property under the developer and now the new management group BlueGreen. They had us owners pay lots of extra monies to "remodel and improve" the property which has recently been reopened. UNfortunately for us old timers they did little to improve things in my opinion. They replaced Queen beds with doubles and kings with queens. It looks more roomy in photos I guess. They took out most of the refrigerators even in the two bedroom units. Those were replaced with little ~2ft square coolers without freezers. They removed the stoves, jacuzzi bath tubs and the out door public jacuzzi. They also removed tables and chairs and murphy beds which were very comfortable, replacing them with fold out couches. The floor appears to be pine and although recently replaced already has deep grooves in it in places where heavy things were dragged like in the elevator. Almost all of the staff has been replaced.
It remains in a great location with nice people working there and will please most renters I suppose. I remain offended and feel pretty abused by BlueGreen who turned my annual 2 week vacation spot into a hotel instead of the home away from home that I bought about 20 years ago when It was new. Paying my annual maintenance fees and those extra large fees to demodel sure seems insulting to me now.

Room Tip: Be aware that the French Quarter is a noisy place. This location is only one short block from The H...

To get the negative over early, parking is valet, and $30 per night, or any portion thereof. There is meter parking available, but good luck finding an open one. There are creative options, but the valet parking is the easiest option.

Actually, you probably won't need a car. You can catch a shuttle from the airport, and buy a single or multiday public transportation pass which is good for all city buses and streetcars (don't call them trolleys - remember "Streetcar Named Desire"?). If you want to see the French Quarter, you are there! Harrah's Casino is a two or three block walk, and Bourbon Street is about the same distance in the other direction. We stayed there a week, and easily walked from one end to the other several times. We also used the streetcars when we anticipated shopping, so we wouldn't have to carry packages.

But this isn't a review of New Orleans. Club La Pension is a timeshare/hotel on the edge of the French Quarter, operated by the Blue/Green folks. Our unit was a one-bedroom two-level, with a Murphy bed in the small downstairs sitting room/kitchenette. Everything about it spoke atmosphere. We were on the top floor, with a balcony overlooking Decatur Street. We were able to watch impromptu music performances a couple of times. The balcony floor is wood and needs to be replaced. There is a hot tub on the roof, but with everything there is to do in the area, we never got around to trying it. The bathroom water pressure is not very strong, but I believe that is a New Orleans problem. The hotel is old, but most units have been renovated. To us, its age, condition, and location is a big part of its charm. It was New Orleans. We even got used to the occasional sirens from the fire and rescue just down the street.

Basically, if you want New Orleans history and charm, and don't have to worry about the cost of parking, this place will probably suit you. If you want modern generic facilities, there is a fairly new highrise hotel just behind the Club La Pension.

Next time we visit NOLA, if we drive, we'll look for a place with free on-site parking. If we fly, we definitely will check the Club for available rooms. BTW, the staff was super. But just about everyone we met in NOLA was also.

Room Tip: Some rooms have a common balcony and some have a private balcony. Some are totally inside. The room...
