Took a quick stroll and caught the ferry across the Mississippi River. Got off and walked to a local "dive bar" for a quick drink. There is a lovely view from both sides of the river.

Don't spend all your time on Bourbon Street. Remind yourself that NOLA is a working port and the deepest part of the Mississippi (200 ft. deep) is right by the city. The ferry, currently free, will run you over the Algiers, which is a lovely, quiet spot with beautifully maintained little houses. Take your bike; the ferry has bike racks on the stern. On the Algiers side, there's a bicycle trail that runs along the Mississippi for about 20 miles.

It was a short ride after a very short wait. Perfect for families with small children. It gives you a wonderful view of the city and the bridge over the Mississippi River.

Good place for a stroll! We didn't take the ferry but it was a nice atmosphere to just walk along the water front.

After much information from the web, our hotel and locals , we made our way onto the Free ferry to Algiers. Total ride time is ten minutes, great views and a breeze on the water. There is a political issue as to whether this ferry will continue to run for free or run at all.
