Just a ferry but the only way to cross the river by foot or bicycle. I cycled to the ferry from the french quarter and cycled in algiers as i had my own bicycle. On the way back i met a friendly man who lives in algiers and was on his way to the casino . We talked and he gave me a few tips on local food and culture. 1$ return fee for cars.

“Free across the Missisippi”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2013

Pedestrians free to ride across the river. Takes less than 10mins to get across. You get to see the city skyline from the water. Did not even bother getting off when we got across to Algiers, just stayed on to get back.

“Quick Trip Across The River”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2013

I love boats and the amazing skill the river pilots and captains exhibit while maneuvering these vessels. This particular ship is quick and nimble and will not cost you anything to walk on and ride across the river.

“Not much to see”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2013

While the ferry was free and gave us a chance to be "on" the Mississippi, there wasn't too much to see and the ride was very short.

“Great option to go to the French Quarter.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2013

My son in in the Navy and lives in Algiers. Parking is very expensive in the French Quarter so he parked the car in Algiers and we waited a short time for the ferry. It was a gorgeous day. You can also take the car across if you prefer.
