What a gem this place turned out to be! Small, unassuming...just the perfect place to get a drink and listen to jazz up close and personal. I wish we had more nights in NOLA to enjoy this place again...can't wait for next trip. This place was recommended to us by the Ritz Carlton concierge...thank to him for a great recommendation.

This place is fun for adult visitors of all ages. Last time I went with my parents in their 60's and this time with family in our 30's and all of us loved the experience.
The quality of the music is great and the lady at the door will seat you, sometimes it is packed out with standing room only, but the 4 times I've been I have always had front row seats. It is no cover but a 1 drink minimum technically, and tips for the band, who deserve it!
If it's too busy for a seat try again when the band has a break as people clear out and they will start again.

I love this place because it's small, charming, has a creaky floor, a cool bartender, and he always as the National Geographic channel on. They have Killepitsch which is like Jaeger but wayyyy better. I love to have some as I sit with my friends, cool bartender, and watch nature programs on NatGeo.

The 4 piece band called Fritzel's knocked us off our feet! We stayed till they quit playing! The trumpet guy sang and played a mean coronet, the banjo guy was a great strummer and singer, the bass guy was very good but the drummer had us entranced! He would twirl his sticks, toss them in the air and catch them and he kept a great beat the whole night. You could tell these musicians enjoyed themselves, each other and putting on a great show and we loved every minute! It was such a treat to have some awesome Dixieland jazz played by musicians who enjoyed performing.

This was our first time to NOLA in over 20 years and we were lucky enough to stumble upon Fritzel's during this visit. The hostess found us 2 seats at the bar as the place was packed. We moved a bit closer when the band (Jumbo Shrimp) took a break. This band was great and we bought their CD and played it on the drive home. The bar is small and cramped but the music is great. We enjoyed it so much, we returned the next night on Christmas eve to hear another band play. There is no cover charge, but a one drink minimum. They don't mind if you bring in a drink from the outside but you do have to purchase one from them. A draft beer and glass of wine was $14 + tip which was typical of the bars on Bourbon Street. We'll return on our next visit for sure.
