Alright so this little spot is at the far end of Bourbon St, but if the touristy, over-the-top bars/clubs of the rest of the area there aren't quite your taste, then this is your spot! AMAZING JAZZ!!! Killer atmosphere! The Jumbo Shrimp played and I was blown away! Do you have to buy a drink to stay? Sure... Because otherwise people would just wander in and listen to this delicious music for free (no cover) and never wanna leave. Totally worth whatever pittance you pay for a water or beer or two. Go here!

Borbon Street has always been cheap and cheerful bling but is now full of electronic music pumping out of the bars. Fritzell's has maintained standards and whereas most good music is now around Frenchman Street this little bar has genuine ethnic music which appeals to the passing crowd but also has real quality musicians dedicated to recreating some original New Orleans music.

3 nights in NOLA and 3 nights here! A find at the end of Bourbon street! Thoroughly enjoyed the different musicians every night. 1 drink minimum, no cover charge, smoking is permitted so if you like Jazz, no great Jazz, this is the place!

We were recommended to this place when we visited NOLA for the first time back in October and it was one of the best recommendations ever. Four of us arrived in NOLA on Halloween and enjoyed the most bizarre but wonderful night strolling up and down Bourbon Street with thousands of others enjoying the costumes and party antics. Each time we passed Fritzells, the lovely Kate beckoned us in and we enjoyed a set of fantastic, infectious good time jazz and a margarita. We headed back every night after trying other inferior bars - 5 nights in all - and on the last night brought 3 locals with us who all also fell in love with the place! Then when my wife and I decided to return to Louisiana in August we couldn't wait to return to our favourite bar. Kate was still outside calling us in and we took no second asking. The place runs like clockwork with wonderful slick service, passing of the tip jar and, of course, fabulous music. A European visitor brought his own banjo one night and was welcomed into the band and this added to the occasion. We visited again on each night of our stay and can't wait to go back but to ease the pain of departure, I bought both CDs by the resident band and they are permanently playing in the car as a reminder!!

Tucking in the heart of the tourist trap hell that is Bourbon Street, this place has one of the best house bands I've ever seen. The house line up changes slightly from night to night, but if you love Dixieland jazz you'll have a great time here. Small, cramped, smokey, unpretentious, everything a jazz club should be.
