“Comfy, clean, quiet, excellent location”

We had a great stay here. The staff were friendly and welcoming, whilst providing lots of information about the property and the local area. We stayed in the 'cowboy room'. It was clean, quiet comfortable, spacious and cool. We had a fridge, cable tv, Internet access and a private bathroom, as well as lots of storage! The inn was located only a short walk from the French quarter, and was in a very safe neighbourhood full of pretty authentic New Orleans properties. We were able to reach all of the typical sights very easily by foot. We would definitely stay again! Thank you for a brilliant trip.

Now that we stayed the photos appear to have been photo shopped. This is NOT A BEDCBED & BREAKFAST- no food even if you find on B&B site. The rooms are uncomfortable and not clean. Much farther from the French Quarter than they intimate. Place needs a lot... A LOT... of basic maintenance. Broken bathroom window; No curtains/blinds in bathroom; Minimal storage; 2 inches of dust bunnies under bed; Back outdoor patio is reached by terrbile walkway with falling down fence and is in poor shape. Sitting area is Non-Existent. Terrible lighting in rooms, hard to read. All upstairs rooms have open vent above door letting the sound of everything into your room. Not wuite Hotel California in NOLA but not far removed.

Room Tip: Reserve downstairs, upstairs bad

We would love to apologize for your stay but after our experience with this guest we believe he should have stayed at a Marriott or Bed and Breakfast . We have advised all guests that this is a historic house and is beloved my 99% of our guests. We are also NOT listed as a Bed and Breakfast and we make that clear on our website, nor do we want high maintencance guests staying with us. For uninformed guests who do not take the time to educate themselves this is what happens. We love our guests but we do not want anyone who has 4 star expectations to stay here. We recommend next time doing research and educating yourself before you book a place for $49 rates and expect a $250 room. Thank you for staying but please stay at a Bed and Breakfast next time if that is what you expect.

My husband and I stayed at the Old Historic Creole Inn October 9th through 14th of 2011 for our 5th year anniversary. I booked over the internet and had no problems checking in or out. The Inn keeper, Gail was very polite and helpful throughout our stay. We were very pleased with the location and found it very easy to walk to everything we wanted to do. Frenchmen St. (where the locals hang out for bars/restaurants/music venues) was only three blocks away and Bourbon St. was about 15 or 16 blocks away. The blocks are very short so, if you want to walk all the way to the other side of the Quarter, it only takes about 12-15 minutes. While the neighborhood can look a little sketchy in places, it is PERFECTLY safe. We saw many single females walking and biking alone after dark. There is also free parking on site. We only drove 1 out of the 5 days we were there because we could walk to everything and also because there is such a great mass transit system if you happen to want to travel uptown or to the garden district. We found some of our favorite performers and restaurants on Frenchmen St. and there was even a neighborhood block party one block over from where we were staying that had live music, free food and JELLO shots! The only negative things I have to say about our stay at The Old Historic Creole Inn is that the shower was extremely tiny. We're talking coffin style! It was so small that I actually had to exit mid-shower each bathing session in order to shave my legs and, my husband who is almost 6' 4" had to bend his knees and crouch down just to get his head in the water. There was also only a sheer curtain on one of the windows in our room (Memories Suite) which made it very hard to sleep due to the street light that is located right outside. Other than that, we had a great stay and for the amount of money ($285 for 5 nights!) I think those are things we would gladly deal with again.

We found that New Orleans can be a very expensive city to eat in so below you will find a couple of tips for how to stay within your budget.

Cheap late-night food:
Cafe' Negril ($4-$7)
Location: Frenchmen St.
This music venue has an awesome taco truck in the back. We ate here twice during our stay and I found it to be the best food I ate the whole time in NOLA. They have tacos, tamales, gorditas, quesadillas and burritos which all contain very fresh ingredients. All of the tortillas are hand-made nightly as well. I highly recommend the pineapple-pork quessadilla and tacos. And you can chow down while listening to some pretty good local jazz and regae performers.

Cheap Breakfast:
N'Awlins Cafe
Location: The French Market
We shared a HUGE creole bowl for breakfast one morning which consisted of grits, shrimp, andoullie, cheese a poached egg and toasted sour dough bread. It was more than enough for two people to eat and only cost about $12.

Dinner:
The Lost Love Lounge (only one block from the Creole Inn)
We had delicious Vietnemase food at this local hangout and venue. I highly suggest the Chicken or Shrimp Bun and the shrimp spring rolls with fresh peanut sauce. We spent about $30 combined.

Dessert:
The Creole Creamery
Location: Uptown
If you enjoy icecream, this is the place to go! The owner/proprietor creates all of the flavors from scratch and you will find some of the most interesting combinations of all time. Pumpkin Pecan Praline, Balsamic Vinaigrette Bartlett Pear, Mexican Chocolate, Avocado etc. This is a must for all of those with adventurous tastebuds. One word, DELICIOUS! A double scoop on a waffle cone is only $6. They also have the most extensive selection of sorbet flavors I have ever seen in an icecream shop.

Beverages:
Being beer snobs, we found that when we wanted to imbibe the best and most frugal option was to hit up one of the local package or grocery stores. Instead of spending $5 or more on a 16 oz beverage at one of those horrible little tourist trap beer stands, you could walk into a package/grocery store and purchase a 22 oz growler at a fraction of the cost. These places typically have a great selection of many of the locally brewed beers (our favorites: Abita Andy Gator and Vanilla Stout) so it's much easier to find something to tantalize your tastebuds.

Lunch:
Tracey's
Location: Garden District
Delicious fresh food. A nice relief from the rich cuisine offered in the Quarter. Salads for $5 and a HUGE club for$7 (both of which we split). Very affordable and a nice patio to sit on which is located right across from some beautiful historic houses.

We met in New Orleans with four of our friends to celebrate one of my friends birthday. We stayed in this amazing house and the experience was exellent. Gayl is the housekeeper and she was a wondeful host. Not only she was there most of the time just in case we need something while we were staying there but she knows all the different palces and delicious restaurants around the area and every single one she told us to visit was wonderful. I felt I was home away from home. Plus everything was very close, we walk every day to almost every palce we visit from the house and if you feel you want to take a cab, this house is so close to everything, the cab rates were very affortable.

Gayl goes out of her way to make you feel welcome and to help you make the most of your experience - she put up with me messing up my outings booking and asking no end of ridiculous 'first-time-in-America' questions. The room was lovely - it was beautifully decorated, air-conditioned (thank goodness!) and felt very luxurious for the price!
It had a good location near the French Quarter which was about a 10/15 minute walk away. It's far enough away to be quiet but near enough to feel like you have easy access to all the tourist haunts you want.

I wanted to stay somewhere quiet but still be close to everything. I also didn't want to pay the high prices to park in the French quarter. The room was nice, had all the necessities, and was close enough to the activities but far enough for the kind of R&R I needed.

The Creol Inn is a nice little house in Faubourg Marigny. Not the high end spot for extravangant people, but there is everything you need. It's in a quite area, with many very creativ people around. The French Quarter is within walking distance. Gayl, the innkeeper is an a very helpful person who is around most of the time.
