We went in because it was too hot to eat outside. Boy were we glad we did. We did not have high expectations, but had a great seafood salad at a very reasonable price. While we were there, we saw them pulling shrimp out of the boiler. They were huge! We went back for lunch the next day and had shrimp. It was absolutely delicious. We'll definitely go back when we're back in New Orleans!

We traveled to NOLA twice within the last two months. On our first visit, we wondered into The Original French Market. We ate very late the first night and most restaurants were closed. Crab meat au gratin is my favorite so it was a no brainer for me. My husband loved his seafood platter but after tasting my au gratin, he opted for it this trip. The gumbo was very nice, also. The sides, potatoes and Maque choux were outstanding. The price is very reasonable for a tourist location. If you are walking, it is at the end of the French Quarter but worth the walk.

We dined here on a Wednesday night with a group of eight. We were seated at a nice big table. This was our second visit - we were here almost exactly two years ago, and the place really has not changed.

The menu includes all the local favorites, and specializes in the local seafood - shrimp, oysters, crabs, local fish, and crawfish when they are in season. Atmosphere is informal and the smell from the big cauldron of shrimp boil in the window is wonderful. There is a raw bar where the oysters are prepared right there.

We had a selection of appetizers including alligator bits, crawfish tails (probably frozen), boiled shrimp, stuffed mushrooms, and chrbroiled oysters - all were great. The favorite entree was the barbequed shrimp - not exactly like Pascal Manale's, but excellent, huge, generous portion, and more reasonably priced than the fancy "table cloth" restaurants. Others in our party had blackened redfish, roasted oysters, and crab au gratin and everybody remarked about the generous portions and quality of the food. Service was great, with our waitress getting help from other waitstaff when she needed it with our large party.

Didn't think the price was too bad (for the French Quarter at least) since even with at least two rounds of drinks, the bill, including 18% gratuity for the large group, was $375.
