“A great, personalized stay in New Orleans”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2010

The Lions Inn provided a wonderful place to stay just outside the French Quarter. It was about a 10 minute walk to the French Quarter with people always walking about. We only took a taxi back at night once because of the cold weather! Coffee was always available in the morning, whether we were the latest ones to arrive or the earliest. Pastries, yogurt, juice, etc. were also available. We immediately felt included and friendly with the hosts and the other guests, greatly enjoying talking over coffee or the extended wine hour. The wine hour (it was actually much longer than an hour) included wine, cheese, other snacks, and even gumbo one night! The backyard pool and hot tub area looked very inviting but it was too cold to enjoy them. Our room was very comfortable and clean. I would definitely recommend Lions Inn for the friendly hosts, great location, and enjoyable atmosphere!

Our stay here was great right from the start. Our room was clean, private and comfortable. We stayed in room 3 with the bathroom across the hall. This ended up working wonderfully. The neighborhood was great because it was within walking distance to the French Quarter but lacked the drunken debauchery of Bourbon Street. Our host, Floyd, filled us in on all of the local spots. Wine and cheese nights were a blast, and lasted long into the evening. A late night with wine in the hot tub made for an excellent New Years Eve. Great conversation, great people - we look forward to returning in the future. Thank you Lions Inn for a great stay!

I stayed in room 2 for just one night. The room was fine and had a nice firm mattress and a modern private bathroom. This room is more like a mainstream hotel room than some other B&Bs I have stayed in, It was very quiet. My host were very friendly, and the dogs were not a problem; I am an animal lover and I am used to having pets underfoot. The grounds with pool, hot tub and koi pond were beautiful

First let me specify that I did not stay at the Lions Inn itself, but the Honeymoon Cottage is managed by them and a few doors down. We absolutely loved the cottage and felt like we were on our second honeymoon (even though it wasn't originally intended to be - it was)! The house itself is an unassuming shotgun style house, and it's cute inside but our favorite part by far was the courtyard - especially the hot tub! It was great to come "home" to each evening, and it was also nice to just sit outside in the morning too. In fact, I wish I would have planned an extra day to just hang out there. We didn't use the pool but still enjoyed it. (One thing to keep in mind though, the bathroom isn't extremely private, and there really is only a claw foot tub. The shower attachment is only so helpful without a curtain, but you could optimistically say it's "charming"...)

I had wondered about the Faubourg Marigny district, but in general we felt safe in this particular area where the cottage is. It wasn't too far from the Quarter, but we would recommend driving. It was about a mile from the cottage to Jackson Square so by the time you walk there and around the Quarter and back home, it can be a good bit (especially if it's hot). And since parking is free at the cottage, it was a fair trade to pay for it in the FQ. And although I've stayed in the FQ and liked the convenience, it was also nice to be right outside of it and have the privacy too.

Overall, we felt it was a really good deal, and would definitely choose to stay there again. I've already recommended it to some friends who are planning their honeymoon!

My friends and I have stayed many times at Stuart and Floyd's Lions Inn Bed and Breakfast on Chartres in the French Quarter. this is THE place to stay. Hosts are without question the best at providing every possible amenity (including bicycles, arranging cabs, recommending the best local restaurants, places to avoid, etc) and making you feel at home, with grace and warmth. The tropical paradise consists of beautifully furnished European influenced rooms; all are different with anything you need, including refrigerators, cable, wireless, and a hot cup of coffee to wake you up! Wonderful breakfast on the patio (gorgeous tropical N.O. courtyard with pool, hot tub, gardens) and lovely cocktail hour in the evening. If you want a truly authentic Vieux Carre experience, this is the place. If you want a standard hotel with impersonal but predictable samo, samo, stay at the chains. Not for us. Wonderful local cafes, restaurants, and neighborhood bars are right out the front door. Safe and friendly and parking w/o problems, right in front of Inn. Merci beaucoup, Stuart and Floyd.

The Lions Inn is a nice looking B&B from the street. The main house is quaint. The room I had was a bit claustrophobic. One other room I saw through open windows was cute and bright. The hot tub smelled. The courtyard was trashy. The breakfast was so minimal one has to wonder why they even bother. It was so obvious there was no interest in providing a pleasurable breakfast experience. New Orleans is known for great coffee, yet the only coffee served was watered down Folgers. The breakfast "window" was about 1 hour, and when over, the coffee was gone. No slow, relaxation there!
The shower for room #1 is not the best; and you have to watch your head getting in/out.
There is an advertised 5:00pm wine/cheese reception. This consisted of a few blocks of a standard cheddar cheese and a glass of old, stale wine on my first night, and a bit better tasting wine on the second - but still not too great. Again, like the breakfast - obvious no interest in this service at all.
The Marigny location was good and the on-street parking was easy.
The owners were away on vacation and the house was in the hands of a hired person. That could be why it was so lacking. But the worst thing was that there were several dogs on the property, associated with the B&B, and one of them bit me when I was being checked into the room. The woman taking care of the place acted very aloof about the whole event. I said I would stay only if the dog was put up. It was - but not for long. And at 7:00am the next morning it was outside the room yelping loudly. Again - no relaxation here!
Would I stay here again? Probably not - but especially not unless guaranteed the actual owners are on the property. The owner's representative didn't even bother taking time to talk with the guests during the evening reception or breakfast.

Thanks for providing a beautiful place to stay with plenty of interesting people. Being rather shy myself, it was pleasant to have other guests to visit the sights with and have lunch or dinner. Of course, your teasing helps keep the pot stirred and was a big part of the ambiance. It's rare to find a place where the proprietor and staff take such pride in what they offer.
