“Hands down one if the best locals' restaurants in New Orleans!”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

The Maitre D'(manager/ sommelier/host) is the best. Very few restaurants in the area still have one on staff. He is very welcoming and will go out of his way to accommodate you. He treats every customer like a friend. It can, however, get very busy at Tommy's with locals so don't expect a quiet restaurant, especially weekends...unless there is a home Saints football game then you're in luck because everyone is at the game. It's the only place in NOLA that I can think of that is suitable for a romantic dinner, a large family reunion dinner or even a business meeting. In a separate wing the restaurant offers nice private banquet rooms that can accommodate small round table discussions or engagement dinners. I've had friends go for business dinners and they keep on going back.

My favorite meal at Tommy's is bruscchetas, followed by the shrimp pasta and a decadent bananas foster bread pudding New Orleans style! Their cuisine is known for its mix of creole and Italian flavors.

Did I mention they have a wine lounge. On a busy night you can wait for your table in the lounge and listen to live local Jazz bands while having a cocktail or glass of wine. I like to go there after having dinner in the restaurant. It's nice not to have to drive to another location for entertainment, especially after you've had a few glasses of wine. Call ahead to find out who's playing that night.

The servers are friendly and take pride in their work. Please remember to tip well. New Orleanians tip 20% or more. For most New Orleanians, working in the restaurant and hospitality industry isn't a second job it's their primary source of income. Plus, it's good karma :-)

“Get the Veal”
Reviewed August 9, 2013

Had a business dinner here a few weeks ago. I heard Tommy was the ex husband of Irene who runs Irene's. We LOVE Irene's so this was a logical place to try. We were forgoten for some reason which was annoying but they made it up to us and the Veal Picatta made me forget any hard feelings I was harboring. It is the best I've ever eaten.

“No Reservations”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

Being a local, I should know better than to have a staycation downtown without a reservation. We walked from the Hilton at about 7 PM toward the Warehouse district for dinner. We came upon Tommy's where I've been wanting to try for some time. Surprisingly, they were able to accommodate us. Our server was a veteran citing the specials as though he had created them himself. Wine and warm bread was brought with haste. The shrimp bisque, or chowder since it had potato in it, was thick and yummy. Hubby got veal picata which was very tender, served with fresh green beans and a potato mash. I got tender drum topped with grilled shrimp and served with corn machoux and thinly sliced fried sweet potato. A very typical creole dish. This is touted as an Italian restaurant, but the menu was more creole. I would have liked dining in the front of the house as it was more charming with its dark wood bar. Looks like our dining room was maybe an add-on created by popularity and quite possibly encroached on the initial charm of the place. The service was efficient and a bit rushed, but attentive. The food was very good and I would eat here again, but I would not go so far as to say it was excellent. A cup of soup, 2 entrees and 3 glasses of wine ran about $110 tip included. Neither rush to or run from. And without a reservation on a Friday eve, not a bad choice at all.
