Description: The Pelican Club, offering a wide range of fabulous New Orleans dishes, consists of three dining rooms and a large bar fashioned from a handsome, 19th-century French Quarter townhouse, rising from the corner of Bienville Street and Exchange Place in the heart of the French Quarter. Owner, Richard Hughes, and his wife, Jean Stinnett-Hughes, transformed a neglected architectural gem into a welcoming restaurant decorated in a crisp blend of traditional and contemporary. Each room has its own ambiance, created with such diverse elements as burnished Louisiana cypress, contemporary paintings by New Orleans artists, antique prints, and the dramatic contrast of black-leather banquettes against cream-colored brick walls. Such an atmosphere is sure to make your meal feel like a truly New Orleans experience.

“Best of Coolinary”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

I came along with my wife to her conference and during my research for the trip I found out about Coolinary. It's runs the whole month of August and they have fixed prices for 3 and 4 course meals. Not all the restaurants participate and some have limited choices for their fixed price menus. I chose Pelican Club for their variety of menu choices for Coolinary and their overall high rating. I had the lobster with shrimp, crab, and scallops, which was $5 more than the regular Coolinary $35 items, but it was well worth it. I had a feast of delicious seafood in front of me and it was the highlight meal of my trip.

“First time, not disappointed”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

Have read about The Pelican Club for years, never had the opportunity to eat there. A group of us decided to go and was pleasantly surprised. One of the hidden gems in the French Quarter. Service was top notch, food even better. Although we had a large group (when service could falter) the staff was on top of their game and everything came out beautifully.

“Hidden gem”
Reviewed July 23, 2013

Enjoyed a quiet dinner with friends at the Pelican Club. We were enticed by the coolinary menu running through August and were not disappointed. The $35 menu was varied with quite a few choices of appetizers, entrees, and desserts. The crab and shrimp cakes with friut salsa were delicious and the lobster with shrimp, crab meat, and scallops was cooked to perfection. For dessert, the white chocolate bread pudding was light and custardly...not the dense brick found in some restaurant. Our waiter, Markus, was engaging and attentive and we enjoyed bantering with him. For those who haven't been to Pelican Club, The Coolinary menu is a great introduction and will put this restaurant on your favorite list! Thanks for a pleasant evening and a great meal.

“Our delicous, last meal in The Big Easy”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

A hidden locals favorite in the French Quarter. The best baked bread and whipped mashed potatoes I have ever tasted. Try the chef's tasting menu, and get three courses (full and very large portions) for $35. I tried the baked oysters, the filet topped with crab cake over mashed potatoes and asparagus, and the flourless chocolate cake for dessert. DELICIOUS. Great food, great service, and a wonderful price. This was our favorite meal in New Orleans.

Mediocre at best. Nothing special in a city with so many options. The service was average and the food was not better than a chain restaurant.
