Description: The Pelican Club, offering a wide range of fabulous New Orleans dishes, consists of three dining rooms and a large bar fashioned from a handsome, 19th-century French Quarter townhouse, rising from the corner of Bienville Street and Exchange Place in the heart of the French Quarter. Owner, Richard Hughes, and his wife, Jean Stinnett-Hughes, transformed a neglected architectural gem into a welcoming restaurant decorated in a crisp blend of traditional and contemporary. Each room has its own ambiance, created with such diverse elements as burnished Louisiana cypress, contemporary paintings by New Orleans artists, antique prints, and the dramatic contrast of black-leather banquettes against cream-colored brick walls. Such an atmosphere is sure to make your meal feel like a truly New Orleans experience.

Don't know if this is the best in town because we haven't been able to dine at all of them including the vaunted Commander's Palace - :=( . . . during our week in NOLA we tried as many as we reasonably could, and really enjoyed each and every one. But The Pelican Club emerged with the fewest issues and the most universally delicious dishes. The setting was a little more formal and bright and less cozy with the open-concept dining room, but that's all I can complain about. The waiter Eugene made us feel right at home and enjoyed sharing his extensive local and historical knowledge with us.

Perfectly delish were: filet, rack of lamb, gumbo, goat cheese salad, bread pudding. No mistakes!

Maitre d' seemed distant and unfriendly but the rest of the evening wiped that memory clean.

We were visiting NO and went to TPC upon a recommendation from the concierge at our hotel. We were very pleased that we did. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. We started with the baked oysters, best we had in New Orleans. We had the fish of the day and the filet, both cooked perfectly. The wine selection was really good and the waitress, Kim, made some great recommendations. We finished with the Bourbon Pecan Pie, it was delicious!

We are locals who eat out all the time. The Pelican Club is top notch for food, service, atmosphere and location. The last time we were there, Christmas Eve, it was a real challenge to choose from among the many tempting selections. This is significant since one of us does not eat red meat and another is an avowed carnivore. The bar is very attractive in a cool, Louisiana modern so of way though we have never waited longer than a few minutes for our table even at the holidays. We always make reservations ahead of time. We really like the location. The street really does transport us back to Europe more so than the rest of the Quarter. There is ample parking very close by. It is pricey but a great place for dinner, drinks or special occasions.

The family "foursome' (my husband & I, Sister & her husband) spent 24hrs in New Orleans on 12/23/2012. Our evening was complete with dinner at The Pelican Club. I had researched dining options and menus online prior to our trip, even booking our table online. The food was excellent and offered everything from "small bites" to the four course Revellion dinners. Sister & I did small bites with the Italian salad, seafood martini, barbequed shrimp and crab/shrimp cakes. The husbands both ordered the whole crispy flounder, served on platters. Needless to state, we did not have desserts. Service was impeccable. The Pelican Club is off the beaten path, behind the Hotel Monteleone, a little New Orleans secret worth sharing.

Potato-leek soup was chalky. Crab cakes very good. Gulf fish entree overcooked and uninteresting. Bread pudding blah. Wife had a good salad and mediocre fillet of beef. Service was attentive and competent. Soup, fish and a side of roasted potatoes all served tongue-burning hot, a sure sign of a careless kitchen. Just a tourist spot with blah food.
