Wonderful food! Wonderful staff! Reasonably priced considering the location! I loved this place and will return any time I have the opportunity. You'd have to be pretty nit-picky to find any fault with this place. Our waitress was very helpful and even provided recipes for the bread pudding and the whiskey sauce which is a definite must order. Our water and drink glasses were kept filled without having to ask. Everyone was cheerful and it was a delightful experience. The food was magnificent! We ate at a number of pricier restaurants including on Jackson Square and Bon Ton was the equal to any of them. It was my favorite while we were in New Orleans.

Well established restaurant in a good location, with a pleasing decor of old bricks and dark wood. The service was good and the waiter knew all the locals by name, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was lively. We enjoyed an Etouffee and a Crab au Gratin, along with a very nice bottle of wine. Unfortunately, I did not have room for the large serving of Whiskey Bread Pudding which I saw delivered, along with a happy birthday song, to a table nearby. A $20 error on the bill was quickly corrected and apologies offered. Reservations are recommended as this place fills up between 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm, even on a Monday in March.

We loved the food and the ambiance. The service was great. We simply had a great time there. Their bread pudding is to die for. Would go there again in a second. You need to make reservations.

From the green and white striped canopy and flickering gas lanterns on the exterior to the wrought-iron chandeliers, exposed beams and brick walls, and the red and white checkered tablecloths, the ambiance of Bon Ton Cafe on Magazine St. is warm and inviting. The menu, full of original family Cajun recipes, hasn't changed in nearly 30 years and the old adage "don't fix what is not broken" comes to mind. Menu must-tries are: Tidbits of Fried Freshwater Catfish with Alzina’s Special Sauce, Grilled Fillet of Fresh Gulf Fish Topped with Grilled Louisiana Shrimp, Crawfish Jambalaya, and you must, must, MUST try the Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce and add the Butter Pecan Ice Cream. The staff is attentive and delightful. I do recommend making a reservation. as seating in the charming dining room is limited, and patrons are there to slow down, savor good food and good wine, and take in joie de vivre of New Orleans.

This seafood restaurant had a warm welcoming ambiance, although very busy we never felt rushed. The waitress was so sweet to me and my granddaughters, we each got a different dish and the shrimp etouffe was pronounced the best!
