“Good "Gourmet" Mexican Food in Mid-City”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

This is in a Mexican-style building, with a rather spartan interior design. The prices are elevated above what one finds in a typical Mexican restaurant, but it is supposed to be more of a gourmet establishment. I ordered the Chili Relleno, which was a large, breaded, fried pepper, with bountiful beef, sour cream, guacamole, fresh diced tomatoes & onions, and sliced jalapeno peppers. The pepper was sweet, and the jalapenos gave this a real hot kick. It was very good, but I'm not sure it was worth the $12.00. The entree came with neither beans nor rice, and the appetizer of chips and salsa was only average. It's your call with this one. RJT

“Fun Restaurant on Beautiful Avenue”
Reviewed July 8, 2013 via mobile

This a great place to go with friends. Get a table outside and enjoy the scenery. Careful with the margaritas; they're super strong, and you might not realize it until its too late. The food is good, but the service is slow, so patience is a must when you dine here.

“Too expensive for what it is”
Reviewed June 26, 2013

The atmosphere and service was great, but the food wasn't worth the price--two fish tacos, with no sides, which is not fresh-- should not have been 15-17$

“great location and outdoor seating and margaritas”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

Hubby and I eat here probably once every two weeks since we live in the neighborhood. The patio seating is lovely! The restaurant is located along Esplanade Avenue, in the building that once housed the original Whole Foods. The space here is why we go. You can sit outside and watch the world go by: Bikers and runners heading to and from City Park; Customers crowding the door across the street at Lola's; Fabourg St. John locals enjoying Fortier Park or popping into Consecos or Terranova's for groceries; Swirl and Fair Grinds are around the corner if you need your wine or coffee fix. Sometimes the restaurant has live band playing, which is terrific.

The service is usually really good, especially if they recognize that you frequent the place. The food is a bit pricey for what you get, but it is good food. I particularly like the bean dip! It's kinda the best deal for appetizers, since they charge you for a refill on chips anyway. Hubby likes the camarones enchalados--the jumbo shrimp are fresh, beautiful, and delish. I usually get the Santa Fe Caesar Salad and add either grilled tenderloin or shrimp. Also the grilled fish tacos are good--this time of year, the fish is drum. Initially, when we tried Santa Fe, I was disappointed because I kept trying to get Mexican food (burritos and quesadillas) and wasn't satisfied because the taste is average, but the price is high--for half the price, I could go to Taqueria Corona and get a better burrito. BUT the trick here at Santa Fe is to get the fresh seafood in their salads and main courses--this is where Santa Fe shines. I don't love the Sangrias here, but maybe that's because the best in the city are across the street at Lola's :-) but the top shelf margaritas here are some of the best in the city. Also a plus--they are open during Jazz Fest and can usually seat you right away.

“Very good cuisine”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

My first visit and I must say that the food was very good. The crawfish empanadas and the seafood enchiladas were very tasty. The atmosphere was nice also. The only problems I had were that the waitress smelled like an ashtray and the owners had their little dog tied up near the door barking uncontrollably. Otherwise, it was a nice night.
