“Where the locals go in N'Awlins”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

For anyone visiting New Orleans it is worth your while to venture out of the French Quarter for a real treat. As someone born and raised in the Big Easy take my advice and head to 3800 Canal St for a wonderful lunch or dinner. Mandina's has been a local favorite for years. Gumbo, turtle soup, crab claws, shrimp remoulade are all wonderful appetizers. Daily specials are always good (stuffed crab on Friday is my personal fave) and the oyster and shrimp po boys are unbeatable. Be sure and have an Old Fashion cocktail, house specialty and oh so good. So hop the streetcar from anywhere downtown for a 15 minute ride to some great food.

“GOOD DINNER”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2013

We arrived at Mandina's a little later than we had hoped, due to a jam-packed, slow moving Canal Street trolley (Now I have some idea what it's like to ride a train in India!). When we arrived at Mandina's there was already a line inside the bar, so I ordered a beer and we waited for little while, and we were shown to our table in a reasonable amount of time. Since the portions at Mandina's are HUGE (as it seems in most of the New Orleans restaurants we visited), my wife ordered soup, and I ordered an appetizer, and both of which were very good and more than adequate.
My wife struck up a conversation with a nearby friendly "local" who said, "yeah, this is a tourist place but the locals come here too."
All in all we enjoyed it. Our server Kevin was terrific and very timely.
The trolley ride back to the St. Charles tranfer point and the ride back to our hotel on St. Charles moved much faster than the ride going out!

“Excellent service. Great comfort food.”

Friendly waiter. Great food. We had seafood gumbo, catfish and an oyster po boy. Everything was cooked to perfection. This is not a fancy place, think of a southern family restaurant.

We had a wonderful lunch on Saturday at Mandina's. All of or food was delicious. I had a combination shrimp and oyster poboy and the oysters were large and very tasty.

“An ok place to eat”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2013

For this being an Italian restaurant, there wasn't much Italian food on the menu. The food was mostly fried. I was really disappointed in the food. The portions were large, but our family of four did not eat all our food. We mostly had spaghetti. I think, I've made better at home.
