August is yet another must visit destination when my husband and I visit New Orleans. It is quite expensive but still worth the splurge. The main dining room is beautifully formal but not at all stuffy. The food choices, either a la carte or several courses with a fixed price, are interesting and original, preparation is invariably beautiful, and the mixture of flavors and textures results in utterly delicious dishes. Wine selection is good. Service is impeccable and rendered by a team of dedicated servers interested in making your dining experience memorable. It works! Highly recommend August, and it's hard to keep a restaurant of this calibre going so strong for some many years. Kudos.

This John Besh shrine is certainly popular, but while the food is good, others of his restaurants are much better - in fact, extraordinary. In a City where there are many good restaurants, I would considered August as a "good," but not "great" place to eat. The service was ok, and they obviously wanted us out as soon as we finished, because the bill was presented without our asking.

Had dinner at August not cheap but well worth it! The stand out of the evening was our wait team lead by Nickie. We felt like we were the only table they had. We were most impressed by the menu and the fact we could have anything even if it was a prix menu item. The description of each course was an art form. But most importantly the food was fantastic. My husband had the trout, it was delicious!! I had the vegetarian prix fix menu. I am not vegetarian but picked it because the choices were great. The building itself is beautiful and wine selection was great.

Excellent Friday fixed price lunch. Staff made a fuss of my wife which was great, very accommodating. Everything about August made a special lunch memorable.

all of us (5) were all really looking forward to eating at this place. we brought our own wines and as soon as we sat down the sommelier came over and seemed to be a little put out that we had brought our own wines. when we asked her for some decanters she said they only had five decanters in the whole restaurant, but thought she might be able to find two. being an upscale restaurant with a high end wine list one would think you would have a lot more then 5. the waiter was friendly at first and we all ordered appetizers we each had something different. all were very good, we were able to taste each others which we really enjoyed. we thought it was only going to get better. we ordered main courses, 2 had fish, which one the trout dish the temp was just lukewarm. 1 person had quail which was good and the other 2 ordered steaks a filet and bone-in ribeye. they ordered the steaks both med. rare. when they came they were well done and the ribeye was not tender at all. took one bite and could not find anyone to tell them. had to get up and walk around the to find our waiter. he took back the two steaks when he saw how they were so overdone. 10 min. later the head waiter brought out two more steaks. the filet was cooked med. rare just right but had no seasoning at all on it. the ribeye was purple not even rare almost cold in the middle. still tough and seasonless. again had to find our waiter. this time the head waiter came over and saw the steak and was upset himself. he did offer to make another one but at this point we were done and no desert. he did not charge us for the ribeye and one appetizer. overall experience was not good. of the three places we ate at this was a distant third. considering all the restaurant we have eaten at in our travels this was one of the worst experiences.
