“Wonderful meal”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

We had dinner at Upperline this past weekend and what an interesting place. The art work on the walls really were great to look at and made it's way into our conversations. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive but did not bug us. The meal was lovely and unrushed. Great selection of foods, wine, drinks. We opted for the 3 course fixed price menu and it was a great decision. We all had something different so we could experience multiple tastes. There was not one thing I didn't like. Thanks for a great meal in a great city. Can't wait to eat there again.

“Best Shrimp Remoulade”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

Lots of tangy, flavorful sauce and sitting on perfectly fried green tomatoes! Best bread pudding - of the half dozen or so I sampled - drizzled with toffee sauce. Grilled fish of day was tuna with a bacon- green peppercorn sauce w creamy mashed potatoes.3 course dinner $40. Hostess/owner - friendly, attentive. Polished, attractive male wait staff. Funky artworkas decor. From French Qtr/Canal Street, $30 round trip cab fare.

“Well done!”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

Upperline is another place that has been on my list and I finally made it to. Just off the St. Charles streetcar line on Upperline Ave, its fascade is very unassuming. Inside, you'll find a quait restaurant, catering mostly to locals, inside a former GD home. Great service. Staff is very knowledgable about the menu. You can order a la carte or a price fixe menu. The duck and andouille gumbo is amazing! I also had the shrimp and grits. Incredible. Dessert, not so much. I had the toffee bread pudding, which was not well done. But everything else far surpassed. The owner, Joanne, even came over to my table, inroduced herself, and chatted me up a bit. As a solo traveller (who is used to being avoided like the plague sometimes; I think people dining alone scare waitees ;)) it was very refreshing. BTW this place is tiny, and like I said the locals love it. Don't try going w/o a reservation.

“Locals Favorite”
Reviewed September 20, 2012 via mobile

Two evenings after opening from damage as result of Hurricane Isaac, the chef and staff were doing a wonderful job in spite of roof problems. Had the fried green tomatoes with shrimp remoulade-a platonic dish. So good I tried to replicate a week later at home with pretty good results.
Also had gnocchi with squash blossom "Rangoon". Maybe competing with the shrimp dish made the gnocchi suffer but I found them average but plentiful. More than enough for two diners. The squash blossoms were unique and tasty.
Have been there many times over the past 25 years and one can hardly go wrong with most menu items in this "local" gem in Uptown New Orleans.

“Great food!”
Reviewed September 9, 2012

Okay, by far this is the greatest food in New Orleans. They understand the necessity to combine the old with new, intern, creating amazingly scrumptious meals.

Only complaint would be the waiters can have that snooty New Orleans attitude at times. Sorry, I grew up in New York City; the sense of entitlement felt upon some of these (slightly homosexual) NOLA waiters is incredible!
