We enjoyed the old style stool and counter service. Kids had chili fries, catfish and shakes. We had huge, great tasting omelettes. The banter between the waiter and chef was as enjoyable as the meal.

If you enjoy being entertained and having a great at the counter meal in the bargain then this is your place. Be prepared to wait at peak times and when there are major tourist events in town, like the Jazz Fest, but that's part of the experience. My son and I have a tradition of going at 8:00 AM every Saturday morning (no wait) and we split a ham & chees omelet with hash browns, get a mocha freeze and we depart reveling in how lucky we are to have such an institution in our back yard. Second best item on the menu would be the hamburger. In a time period when the burger has been elevated to an art form this burger is a throw back to the original on the grill with all the trimmings, a bowl of onions and pickle relish sitting in front of you. Do not leave without that Mocha Freeze!

I really loved the people and the food at the Camellia Grill. Our servers and cooked sang and joked around with each other and with customers, and seemed to really love their jobs. I had chicken and waffles, with a side of hash browns, and although the hash browns were forgotten at first, everything was cooked well and tasted like awesome diner food. The waffle was served with cane and maple syrup and melted butter - yum!
However, I was traveling with a friend with a nut allergy, and she opted not to eat while insisting that we stay, since our other friends and I had already ordered. The food is almost all cooked on the same grill, including pecan pancakes. My friend saw the pecans being tossed around and decided not to risk it.
So proceed with caution if you have allergies - otherwise, eat up!

Breakfast at the camellia Grill on Chatres is an experience in itself and the food is excellent. Friendly, funny staff serve you from a standard menu, but it's all freshly cooked before your eyes. Excellent Valle for money .

The wait staff are very entertaining, quick service once you are seated. The food is just average, nothing great, just a typical grill. The experience is what you leave talking about not the food. You wait in a line outside the door and then they move you to a seat inside while you watch the people ahead of you sit on bar stools and have their meal, then when they are finished you are pointed to a seat and waited on immediately. We waited about 45 minutes total before being given a seat. Definitely not worth the long wait!
