“There's a reason for the lines”

Think retro diner and you're in the right area, but this is the real deal. Nothing fancy--just good basic food that you can watch being prepared. Just enjoy the entire experience, especially by sitting on the fixed stools at the counter. Oh, and they do carry-outs, too.

“Always good...always fun”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

Been eating here regularly for the last 4 years.
The food is always good, never been disappointing!! the atmosphere inside is fun and takes you back in time 40 years....
I always order the "Chef's omelette", if you are REALLY hungry get it for yourself, if not, then you can easily share with a friend or loved one and you will be just fine.
The Cheese burgers are so tasty and put on your plate directly from the grill!!!....
Bear in mind: this is a very popular and tourist spot, so go early or you will easily wait 1 hour any given weekend....

“Ditto the one $ / five star experience”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

All the raving reviews are accurate. This lunch counter joint is the real deal. Eight of us (siblings and spouses in town for a wedding) enjoyed it together, but with the counter seating, we broke the party up a bit. We got lucky, because on Saturday at 9:00am we only waited five minutes. I won't repeat all the other recent comments except to say that the omlettes are as good as any my wife and I have ever had. We split my vegetable omelette (lots of cheese too!) and her waffle. The waiter (Marvin - what a character) recommended the sugar cane syrup (we loved it, but fair warning, it's like molasses).

Travelogue tidbit: We intended to ride the St. Charles streetcar all the way from downtown out here to Riverbend, but half way, between Garden District and Tulane, the ride ended because of major ongoing track repairs. We were directed to an idling city bus; the driver started driving the wrong way (back towards downtown), then left, then left again, with the driver talking to us (or was it to herself) the entire way. It was just the eight of us on the bus and we weren't sure how this was going to turn out. As my brother remarked, it was like the HOTEL CALIFORNIA - "you can get on but you can't get off". This entire episode was off route and a special delivery; in fact, when the bus stopped and people tried to get on, the driver yapped that this was a "special bus" and that no other riders were allowed. Anyway, we did get off, right in front of Camelia Grill, for one of the best breakfasts ever! (Don't even ask how we got back.)

“A Pleasant Surprise”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

Most people would look at this restaurant and probably pass it by as it looks like a tired diner. That said, it could not be further from the truth. The food is fresh and tasty and the service was the friendliest I have seen in a long time. Not to be missed is their Freeze, something like a milkshake but better. I had their chocolate cherry freeze - Loved it!

“chicken & waffles”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

we went to the location in the French Quarter, but meant to go to Carrolton. It was fun, sit at the counter and have breakfast food all day or chicken & waffles. Pink walls and old-fashioned stools.
