Family had breakfast here. Leon and Frog were MORE than entertaining and friendly. My omelet was SO big I could only eat half of it. Grits here are AMAZING. Great value, great fun, great food. Meet new people and never feel lonely or a stranger. A MUST stop in New Orleans.

This is a must visit while in New Orleans, not only because it is a local institution, but it actually does have really great food. This is an old school style diner with burgers, breakfast, shakes, etc. Very old school type place- walk in and step back in time. It can be extremely busy, with a line out the door at breakfast and lunch times. We went early evening and walked right in and sat down. Service is very fast and it is honestly amazing how they get everyone's order right. They do expect for you to pay and leave as soon as you are done eating, so this is not a leisurely meal. Try the mushroom swiss burger and a chocolate cherry freeze. Yum! Very close to Loyola and Tulane Universities, with a lot of cool stuff to do around it.

The Camellia Grill has wonderful grill food - hamburgers, omelets - and outstanding chocolate pecan pie. The pie is heated on the grill so that it has slightly melted chocolate when it arrives in front of you. What makes it even more memorable is the staff behind the counter who engages in non-stop conversations with the customers. We even got a lesson in how to pour catsup from a difficult bottle.

Breakfast at the Camelia, whether the original or at their location on Chartres Street is a must go. The diner style is casual, and the pecan waffles are fabulous.
